More 80s questions. Big ends & valve clearance
Just adding more questions to the hundreds that are allready on here about 80s, so if you have one or know about them please answer away, it's a 96 factory turbo.
1. Getting some big end bearings this week, don't think they've been done in 330000k's. What is the easiest way to go about it.
How do you get the sump off with that sealant holding it?
Does the sump come out ok, without jacking the engine up?
Whats the tension of the big end bolts?
Do you have to take the injectors out to turn it over?
2.Are the valve clearances shim adjustable or screw and locknut?
3. When the key is turned to the "ON" position a whirring noise comes from behind the dash near the clock. It sounds a bit like the fan going about half the low speed. Any others do this?
4. Why is it when you buy one every second car on the road is an 80series and every second post on here is about 80s
TIA
Graeme.

So using thesame analagy, you better change the rings whilst there...and the mains...they have done 330 aswell...oh what about the crank seals....they will probably leak when you get it all back together....
Dont pay for the bearings, it will be a waiste of time and money...these motors dont blow them...use toyota filters and good diesel oil, and buy two cases of the favourite ale instead.

So there's no need to adjust the valves then? Or do the injectors?dow50r wrote:So using thesame analagy, you better change the rings whilst there...and the mains...they have done 330 aswell...oh what about the crank seals....they will probably leak when you get it all back together....

Do you wait for something to go wrong or just drive it into the ground?
Maybe I prefer to do things before it "really" needs them.
Ale?? I'd sooner spend my money on something I'd get some use out of.

With the correct tow bar!HIL01X wrote:Thanks, wasn't sure if it was that high or not.sniper wrote:3500kg from memoryHIL01X wrote:Another one
Whats the towing capacity? T/D manual.
Mine has a 2500kg rated bar, and there is a hayman reese item that is rated at 3500kg. But at the end of the day, the actually vehicle is able to tow 3500kg.
