Removing Rusted exhaust bolts?
Hi all,
Need to unbold, without breaking, the exhaust pipe from the base of my manafold. As expected they are rusted something feirce.
Considering the space is extremely tight, anyone got any recomendations for unbolting??.. Have been spraying WD40 but it seems to burn off (obviously) when you start up.
If I break the bastards I can see the only way of removal is to remove the manafold!!
Cheers
Rainsey

Take it to a GOOD exhaust shop! They have experience with it!
Alternatively, a good soak with an industrial penetrating spray is the ticket. WD40 and the likes are crap in comparison to the industrial jobbies. Also, a good hit of heat from an oxy should help.
I've tried plenty of times to fix my own exhaust problems, but it generally works out cheaper to have a professsional do it!
Cheers, Dean

Just a web wheeler now!
I still have a can of chesterton kicking around that I borrowed from my last employer, I imagine it came from atkins carlyle, most of our good sprays came from there. Any industrial tool supplier (blackwoods, atkins, and other local ones) should have some penetrating oils that will make crc/wd40 look like kids toys!rainsey wrote:Bugger,
I already have the new exhaust.... just got one delivered from Beudesert Exhausts in QLD.... but the chalenge is to remove the old one.
Getting an oxy onto them is a tall order but the professional penetrating sprays... what are they and where the photon do you get them??

Alternatively, wurth (mechanical supplier) have a product called "rost off". I've got a can of that too and it's not bad!

me to, ive broken so many bolts on cars, had to drill out the exhaust bolts 2 times over, replaced a gasket 6 or 7 times, where once with a exhaust place and it would of been sweet(maybe.. atleast they would have a warranty)Tas_Dean wrote: I've tried plenty of times to fix my own exhaust problems, but it generally works out cheaper to have a professsional do it!

2ND this, used ROSTOFF heaps and got pretty good results.bradley wrote:I'll swear by wurths "rostoff" its awesome gear, just eats the rust and unlocks them fairly easily, spray on when hot to increase the capilliary action. available in aerosol or bulk for hand sprayers.
