RN105 - replacing the 22r with 1ggte

Post by NISMOgemini »

ok i done a search spent a hour reading and have a few questions to clear up b4 making the decision weather to do this or not

i have a RN105 22r carby, live axel front and rear.

1: iv read in a heap of threads that the 1ggte bolts up to the hilux gearbox.. does this mean i use the hilux bell housing and bolt it to the back of the 1ggte? or do i need teh 1ggte bell housing to bolt to the hilux gearbox??
this woudl also mean i only need to make engine mountsto have the engine in place?

2: 22r sucks the fuel down.. will the 1ggte be more efficiant??

3: does the sump require any mods at all??

4: has anyone had any problems with the hilux box not liking the extra power??

cheers guys

Is there anything wrong with the engine besides it drinking problem?
22re conversion is a good swap for the cost.
I swapped my 4y for a 22re engine, was pretty straight forward.
Very happy with result :D

well fuel mainly and the fact that i could probably get the 1ggte in here for close to the same cost as the 22re and it will have more go go :P

aslong as it mates up tothe box as easy as it seems

Have you worked out the gearbox issues? have a search around toymods if you haven't.
Check on your current set up where the sump is aswell. that should give you and idea. are you buying the motor from an importer? They should be able to get each type of engine with different sumps for you :)

Try http://www.supracharged.com
Why not go for 7mge or the turbo 7mgte? 3 litre and turboed if u want it. motor is out of supra or cressida both aussie delivered cars. im half way through the swap right now. easy so far!!!! bellhousing and engine mounts all line up!!

if the bellhousinf and engine mounts all line up.. its basicly a bolt for bolt swap to get it in the engine bay?

Check out the link its the holly grail for info on this swap!! look for 4rnerrick his write up is awsome.

parts wise you need to find some supra bits and pieces (can be a little hard at times) but the motor is standard in australian cressidas (MX83) from 89 through to like 93.

Have a look at the link the whole site is about the swap!!!
Also go through the forums there, endless info there to!!!

Get a whole car or half cut if u can. look for 4rnerrick in the general forum on supracharged he has a 9 page writeup with pics and a full list of what is needed.

also google is your friend, look for 7mge, 7mge hilux and 7mge forerunner. also any info on the 5mge swap is usefull as it is the same block as the 7mge and is a very similar swap (uses all the same parts)

Not sure if someone has already mentioned this bualready confirmed that you bolt the 1G Bellhousing to the G52 Box. Custom Engine mounts are needed. You use the flywheel and clutch off the 1g.

Search for "bundera engine converion" by me from years ago.
I put a 1ggte into my bundera..

All the best.
Regards,
Nick
