96 Pajero lift poll

My mate's got a 96 pajero and wants to lift it to fit 33" tyre's is it worth lifting the IFS up 2" and doing a body lift or should he rip the IFS out and put in a solid axle out of a 79 series cruuiser anybody ever don this before?

The SAS swap is a big job - I'll leave that to others to discuss.

If the Paj has a 3.0 then it will need a body lift to clear 33s. I think the 3.0 was dropped by '96, so it should have the 3.5 or 2.8, in which case you can fit some 33s with a simple suspension lift - although tyre width and rim selection makes a difference for clearance. The body already sits higher on the chassis than earlier models, so a body lift isn't required.

Yes a 96 with a 3.5 V6 or 2.8TDI will have the factory 35mm body lift over the earlier 3.0 V6 so you can run 33"s with only a 2" suspension lift using the right offset wheels.
Doing a SAS just to run 33"s ain't worth it.

and then mines only got about a 1.5" lift and i run 33"s fine, i ran the 33" JT2s on the same setup, the front was maybe .5" higher with no winch and stuff and the rear was prob .5" higher as well cos springs hadnt sagged, but that still just a 2" suspension lift, and the 33" JT2s were waaaaaaay bigger than 33", but they still ran no worries, only time they ever hit was up at stockton when i was jumping the paj, and the fronts hit on the ARB bar, but never anywehre else, thats on 15x8 cruiser offset... :)

I believe by 96 even a 3.0L models had same 35mm body lift. It's absent only on early gen 2. After introduction of 3.0 24V all models had bodylift to accomodate larger transmission. Regardless I run 33" without a lift. Cranking tbars - is not a lift. Just merely increase in riding hight It's by no means eliminates possibility of rubbing.

surely youve done something since the last time i spoke with you, you had the axle and youve got access to the workshop, how bout an update, and hekta, your as bad as each other, i saw hekta up at the maitland show and he said his paj was in the overkill workshop getting done, there must be some updates round somewhere, from either you or stu, might get everyone else motivated to do something :armsup: i wont be cutting anything outta the front for problem 2 yrs as i wanna keep it for touring aus, but after the big trips done, project car here we come :lol:

now how bout some updates on the two SAS pajs we got going apparently :roll:
