Engine Transplant ???

Post by deaser »

Hello this is my first post here and yes i am a newb.
This question probley has been asked a zillion times
so ill apologise for that now.Any way to the point i have
a 1992 model (nh i think ??) with a 3000 v6 thats cactus
(making heaps of odd noises) and was wanting to put a new
engine in it.I was wondering if the 3500 lt engine will fit in or
are mods needed.Any other ideas for a cheap solution would
be much appreciated thanks heaps.

It's "noob" not "newb" - and welcome to OL. :D

Yes, 1992 would be NH in Australia - you are here?

I guess the 3.5 engine will fit, but it could get messy. When it was introduced, it came with larger transmission and transfer case, and the factory mounted the body higher on the chassis to provide the necessary clearance.

I don't know if the 3.5 will bolt to your transmission.
If it does, I don't know if you'll need a body lift to allow the engine to fit.
If you fit the 3.5 to your transmission, I don't know if the trans will survive the extra power and torque.

If you merely want more power, consider the 24V version from Triton/Challenger - I don't know what's involved in fitting, but it's basically the same block.

Good luck,

Scott
