Was told once that the centre will fit but the side gears are different and need to be changed to accept 40 axles. However I pulled out a rear axle and tried it in an 80 centre and it fit perfect so I'm leading towards a big fat YES but lets see what other have to say. We are talking full floater rear on the 40 arent we?

as long as they're not factory locker centers, then yes they'll work. your pinion flange might be a different bolt pattern

Nah...to get 5.29, you need a 37 ring and a 7 pinion....which all fits in a 60 housing. Front 80 gears were from the states.

is that a mix of factory bits (the 7 tooth pinion and 37 tooth ring)? or custom made/ aftermarket?

 Crown wheel and pinions are matched sets and the different tooth counts won't mesh

I am putting an ARB locker into a 75 out of an 80. I just need to use the 80 bearings.

thought that, but considering he made special mention of the front being aftermarket, wondered what was going on with the rear
