Turbo Oil Line Fittings....

Post by JemmyBubbles »

Hey hey,

Have a little obscure problem here. I bought a semi-complete turbo kit a while back now and have had it fitted to my car for some time (TD42). It is a turbo glide hi-mount kit and it's going quite well..

That aside when I first got it I was missing the high pressure "t" fitting that screws into the side of the block. This T fitting is responsible for feeding both the turbo and the vaccuum pump on the alternator with oil. As it was missing I went to a pneumatic/air/gasweld sort of place and got a t-piece that 'sort' of did the job, but the threads are a bit big, so the mechanic who fitted it used thread tape....

It has started to leak from this particular point now and I figure I should probably go and get a t fitting with the correct threads for when I do my next grease and oil ? Question is where in the bloody hell do I get one with the correct threads ? Someone on here would know... they are a common part for all td42's fitted with aftermarket turbos and as such most probably would all be the same size thread ? So where do I go and what do I ask for ?

Thanks for listening to my mindless ramblings...

Jeremy

The fittings that screw into the main oil gallery in the block--ie that feed oil to the Vacuum pump etc are M10X1. I THINK they are tapered as well. If you've got an old oil pressure sender, these have the same size thread, if you need to show the shop. PIRTEK might have the fittings

VDO makes these T fittings as a standard part also - specifically for oil sender units (which includes turbos ...)
If it's worth doing - it's worth doing to excess ...

When i fitted my turbo (Safari) i used a tee that i sourced from Pirtek. They seemed to have a good range of fittings there. Cost was about $30.

Just take all your fittings along, so they can know what you need. The fitting into the block is something weird.

From memory, i have an adaptor that screws into the block, then the tee piece. The turbo oil feed screws in one side, the vacuum oil feed in the other with another adaptor.

In future, i'll probably get a new line made up for the vacuum pump out of braided line like the turbo oil feed with a fitting to suit the tee, as it takes up a bit of room with all the adaptors.

Apparantly there is another oil gallery near the engine mount you can tap into as well. Not 100% sure on this one though.

Hope this helps.
