GQ Steering Boxes
GQ Steering Boxes
I have twisted the sector shaft in the late model GQ Box.
Caused by an impact that also broke a CV and bent the housing.
Anybody have a damaged box with a good sector shaft?
Any other ideas?

Oops, should have read clearer. I have a 96 box in my winch truck and as far as I can tell it is the same as a GU. I have a 94 box as a spare and that is the same, so with that reasoning, I believe that the 94 on (ie when they added the extra side lights) has the same steering box as a GU. BUT I could have it all wrong
gq
My 98 GQ cab chassis has a GU box in it
Remember some days your the pigeon and other days your the statue
ive just fitted a GU box to mine, my gq shaft was twisted too and it was pissing fluid out. the GU box is physically bigger and stronger. it bolts straight to the GQ chassis, you need an adjustable draglink though. as the tie rod end drops in through the top of the pitmanm arm rather than from below on the GQ. the GUs pitmarn hangs about 2 inchs lower than the GQ. the GU pitman arm is also a lot chunkier than the GQ. i was told that the GQ and GU pitman arms are not interchangable due to a different ammount of splines. the GQs tie rod end is a slightly different taper than the GU, i was told by some that it wouldnt fit the GU and others said it was close enough. i gave it a try and it seemed OK, and so far it doesnt seem to have moved at all. heres a couple of pics of the GQ box and the larger GU unit

The steering box scavenged of my road truck (96) to keep the winch truck racing was the same as the GU but the pitman arm was the same as the GQ box I took off? Does this mean all you need is the late model GQ pitman arm to enable a GU box to bolt in?
93 Nissan Pathfinder / Terrano Turboed VH45, GQ Trans and T-case, coil overs, hydraulic winch and fair bit of other stuff. (Currently a pile of parts in the workshop)
.....
I did a similar thing to mine...
Rather then getting a GU box I went for an ultra late GQ box. It is much bigger than my previous box and closely resembles a GU box minus the pitman arm difference..
Perhaps consider one of these..

Sorry for the confusion, I have twisted two sector shafts in the late GQ Boxes. Am looking for another of those boxes, the rooting around and the fact that GU's seem to break pitman arms instead of twisting worries me.
I've got a 92 steering box with an adjustable drag link
I was wondering if it would be a good idea to change to a GU model box to bring the drag link above the pitman arm to make the drag link and panhard parallel
Anyone done it for this reason ?
