aircon question
aircon question
Got '92 tb42e and I want to get rid of aircon condensor and either convert aircon pump into compressor or get endless-air pump.
Is it ok to just undo aircon plumbing and release gas or should it be done by aircon bloke?
Also what's involved in converting pump and is endless-air a better pump?
Also, anyone got any suggestions for a new airbox as the factory ones are too damn big, leak like seives and let too much water in?
Thanks

What i did,was to drain all the oil out of the filler plug (in the body of the compressor).Once drained i put a grease nipple into the filler plug and refit the bolt.
I am now in the process of hooking up hoses and filters etc.
What i also did was the leave the original A/C compressor in position,(Good on a hot day),and put a 2nd compressor above the alternator.
BEST OF BOTH WORLDS!!!

So have you put another pully on the alternator to spin the 2nd compressor??CB0569 wrote: What i also did was the leave the original A/C compressor in position,(Good on a hot day),and put a 2nd compressor above the alternator.

I`ll get some pics for you this weekend.
I used a single pulley behind a double pulley.
I had to twist the air cleaner a little bit to clear the compressor.
I am also thinking of putting a 2nd alt there as well BUT it is all still in the design stage so it doesnt look real appealing at the moment.
I hooked some A/C hoses onto it as a trial (with a belt set up as a temporary as well) and it took about 1 to 1.5 mins to pump up a 33 Mongrel from 18psi to 44 psi

Just trying to visualise this. Wouldn't it get that full of mud and water that by the time you tried to use it the bearings were seized?spannercrab wrote:2nd compressor can also be mounted below fuel injection pump from engine mount bolt and run easily with a longer belt from the P/S pump ...
do a search for "endless air" in these forums ... there have been a few recent discussions ...
Had another thought about this and i think i like it. Is it ok to use only one belt on alternator and use other pully to run second a/c compressor? and carry a spare belt.CBO569 Wrote:What i also did was the leave the original A/C compressor in position,(Good on a hot day),and put a 2nd compressor above the alternator.
