we were offered heaps of assistance from the marshalls, the fact was that my car was upside down resting against a tree and i wanted it back on its wheels. i opted to self recover although they asked many times if we needed another car down to help. they offered assistance and ideas while we got the car onto its wheels then helped us to winch the car to the top of the hill.
i have been a competitor for many years and i have never had a marshall say they wouldnt help out or offer some sort of assistance.
thanks to the marshalls and spectators that help us to recover the vehicle. the rebuild has started as we have 4 weeks before ateco

Marshals are in charge of their stage- full stop. This means in charge of everything including helping out your fellow man, being competitor/ spectator/ another marshal or civilian. Just like on my stage, Lockee's stage, Darren's stage, the list goes on.
Secondly, how do you know the price of there cars, it could have been a $5,000 car. Marshals ask us if they can help- they know exactly what their in for.

It was just unfortunate that this particular stage we were let down-- and you think I'm not pissed off about it!!!!!!!!!

Well holly crap we must have missed some fun on ss2, we did hear of an 80 series having clutch trouble & witnessed the other 80 loosing the spare but didn't know of what all the fuss was about with the marshals etc. I was told this arvo I should check the web sight, wow lots of opinions flying left & right. I feel sorry for the marshals and the vehicle owners and arn't quite sure a public ear bashing / hanging is in order but I wasn't there so I will shut up about that. The other was a white GQ left behind by apparently more marshals not sure about that one but I do know that they were going to follow us out of the river but when we exited the DEEEEEP hole the GU was running on 3 cylinders & was in no shape to climb the river bank. So right on cue was the red bundy dropping in the river from opposite side who quickly went to the aid of the white GQ. Having eventually coaksed the GU from the water we limped into the finish box.
My opinion of the event was an absolute hoot, right on par with all the other Navnites & we had a ball kicking some high mount but with our sloooow mount 8 year old winch. My son Aaron of which this was his 1st winch event was also having a ball, who 6' 5" and was wet to his waist all night can't wait for the next one. He did a great job & will be gainfully employed for the next event. A 3rd outright made his day. After the water logging and the tree that got a bit of loving from us our repair bill is around $4000 but we will be ready for the next one. Well done Rudi and Hobzee and the volunteers we had a fab time, don't change a thing. Go in hard come out soft.

Thanx Biders for pulling us out of ss2, without you it could of been a lot worse. As for mudmav go f@#ck yourself you have no idea what went on. The thing is with people like you, you get all your imformation second hand and act apon it. Grow up.

Hey i dont see what all the who har is,stage 5 ,when we got it straightened out was pretty good I thought, and as for the recovery side of things we had two vehicles there at both ends of the stage and both were needed.I think that the situation could have easily been resolved by firsly ensuring there was a recovery vehicle at the stage and secondly that they were willing to use it for any job required.

As it was me who went back into recover Big Ears (White GQ) with his old man on Sunday at 3pm I guess I'm qualified to comment on the FACT.
A) SS1/2 Marshals did not assist when asked for help. They said it was not their job. One of them went and pulled the car along the road back to the start after the Mark's bundy had recovered it from the water. Onya Daniel - what a chick!!!
B) Hey mudmav .... Your friends not only abandonned Big Ears rig but also left Steve and Rachels brand new spare 35" simex, hi lift jack, shovel, axe and what was left of their rear wheel carrier next to a track. ... yes ... in the middle of bloody nowhere. We stumbled upon it by accident and low and behold $1000 of someone elses gear entrusted to the Marshals just left there. No mention of it to no one. SS1/2 Marshals at home in bed and a rig and valuable gear just left behind. Dig your self out of this one mudmav ... one more comment from you and you can expect to be burried by everyone who reads this!
C) Apologies to Jase in the wet 80 - I had no intensions to bag his rig - just wanted to point out that the water was pre run by standard vehicles and it wasn't as bad as some people made out.
D) The water in the shallow end (some 50 feet from the action was barely hub depth)
E) We really do respect and cherrish the contributions made by our Marshals over the years. They do a sensational job and this might be the only time where a select 1 or 2 were different from the rest. Let there be no doubt that the Marshals are among the most respected and valued players in this sport.
BTW - took 2 60's strapped together at full noise to get Big Ears out. Lotsa mud in the air ...
Gonna be veeeery lonely out there mudmav when you break down ... oh yeh I forgot, you don't break down! Get a life and let us all enjoy our sport without you!

just to clear some stuff up guys and this is from the marshalls involved they asked me to jot this down last night as they have no access to this forum.
the marshall involved that was quoted as saying "its not my problem" actually said "it's not my problem for now we will deal with it when stage 1 is completed"
He said this because he was concerned that if he sent a vehicle back to recover bigears at that point in time their could have been a head on collision with a competitor, once he had fullfilled his obligations on ss2 and all the competitors (bar bigears) were clear he then sent ross carr and chris stagg (competitor) back to aid in the recovery of bigears. He made a judgement call as he felt that if he had sent a car back along the track at that point in time their could have been a head on collision, possibly resulting in a fatality or injury. He also mentioned that if their was a sweep car for this event as their is in many other events then we would not be having this argument at all.
As for leaving the bollards (Having trouble with the marshalls) The marshalls concerned contacted rudi the next morning as they could not fit this equipment in the back of their vehicles and organised to leave this equipment at the campsite which rudi ok'd. Furhter more they mentioned that marshalls were not provided with any sort of runnign sheet for the night nor stopwatches or even pen and paper.
the spare wheel left at the campsite was not agreed to by marshalls as they could not carry this equipment back out the next morning.
Dont shoot the messenger guys im just relaying.

Just a breif note to say a really big thank you for all your help on
Sunday after I had the misfortune of becoming stranded in a difficult location near Erica. With broken steering I was going nowhere. Not only did you locate a spare part for me late on Sunday, transport me around 100 km to get the part, but came back very late (around 10pm) to help me make the repairs.
I'm sure you didn't get home until after 1am as I arrived home after 2am,
but without your help it would have been at least 24 hours later.
I admire your dedication to 4wding, and ensuring no-one is left "Up the
creek without a paddle(steering)".

but i was wondering weathere people who hav competed in thses nav run nights could give me some honest advice about the following
i have a 92 hilux 35 inch silverstone extreams under a 6 inch lift ,lowmount winch,standare 2.8 diesel engine, rock sliders . and a few little other extras lights. icom cb, stuff like that .
and a fare bit of 4wd experience, club acredited certificates for safe recovery capabilities and 4wding
.(lol i no sounds a bit lame but thought id through it in,
anywhoo i am very interested in entering a toolangi style nav run night and want to no weather this would be a wise idea or is my 4x4 to stock or its simply not worth it .
i wont be out to win but to have a good time. with mates who want to enter two
