as above ive got a 2.8d GU and every time i so much as drive through a decent puddle i loose power steering altogether till the water comes off and dries! is this normal or do i need to adjust belt or something else? thanks in advance! ;)

The only part of the system that I can imagine being affected by water in this way is the belt, so even though it feels tight enough to you it's still the prime suspect in my mind. Everything else is sealed for high pressure; if it wasn't you'd have PAS fluid spraying all over the place by now.

I would therefore say - get a new belt. It's only going to cost ten bucks and they don't last forever anyway.

If you had a loose belt for a while, yes the belt would be worn! :idea: But I would also look at the condition of your pully grooves, they also wear especially with a loose belt skidding around!

yeah i would agree as above, check belt edges and pulleys for wear, as the belt may be tight, but not actually grippin properly

do those motors run harmonic balances in the front pully? if so it could be slipping when it gets wet.

pretty sure they dont, as they have a duel mass flywheel which replaces the need for the harmonic balancer, as far as im aware,
