Re: holden v6 question?
The Commodore V6 (before VZ) is a cast iron head/block overhead valve unit sourced from Buick & is about 50 years old (excapt for the injection system).jugger wrote:Is the rodeo , & jackaroo V6 the same as the commodore V6 . andif so would it be better to fit the rodeo or jackaroo one for the 4x4 programomg of the ecu?
The Rodeo/Jackaroo is a Japanese designed/Tiawanese built double overhead cam, alloy heads, cast iron block engine with a smaller capacity.
As far as V6's go I prefer the Commo V6 fo tourque, they produce their power lower in the rev range and tend to have better fuel economy than the Rodeo/Jackaroo but the latter is far more reliable and has good top end power. Advantage of the Commo V6 is the parts are relatively cheap (I rebuilt a power steering pump for 13.90 on the weekend) and conversion kits are readily available, the other V6 has its ECM mounted on the inlet manifold (except Frontera) which can cut down on wiring issues for a conversion.
What are you putting it in?
I was looking into modifying the ECM on my brother in laws Frontera but it was going to be costly & they had not played with them so it was going to become a bit of an experiment. I am sure there ar people out the tha tplay with them but he lost interest & we have left it alone. Mods for Commodore computers are like a#rseholes, everyones got one.

Marks 4X4 adaptors do a calibrated adaptor for what you are looking for. The TH400 in a Commodore has an electric speedo so the Gutlux one wont bolt straight up. It probably comes with the conversion kit. Have a look on their website .jugger wrote:one more question do u just plug the hilux speedo cable in or is there a special comversion thingame whatsit for it as im on the road to a v6 tyrbo400 convo in a few months.

Yes I realised the typo on my part after I posted but then couldnt be bothered to change it because I figured Jugger understood what I meant.

what model did it come outta? a mate was saying that the early v6 snapped cams at bigg revs.[/quote]
Mine is a VN series 2, i have a series 1 in the shed but the heads and inlet manifold are different like the top radiator hose and thermostat and sensors are at the back of the engine on the series 1. If you get one get the series 2 or get a later ecotec series 2 engine.

The 3.2 V6 Rodeo is all alloy, pretty sure the 3.5 V6 Rodeo's and Jackeroos are all alloy too. (Isuzu engines)The Rodeo/Jackaroo is a Japanese designed/Tiawanese built double overhead cam, alloy heads, cast iron block engine with a smaller capacity.

TOM
custom bar work, 4x4 parts, trailers, anything out of steel/alloy :D
Stick with the V6 Com conversion, the V8 convertions are just to much for the old rollux's to handle.
I have mates one with a 253 and another a 350 in '84 and '86 respectively and they sound great but it's damn annoying not being able to go more that 60k's away from a servo or having to carry 4 extra jerry cans for them if we go away.
I have 2 other mates with com V6 converts and both are easy on the juice and unstoppable off road and best of all ive never had a spanner on either of them so they are very reliable.
They dont break diffs and transfer cases and are great on and off the road.
the V6's have a few different models S1 VN had a rope wick rear main seal and the different heads etc S2 VN and S1 VP have a normal rubber lip rear main and is the better of the pulse injected engines.
S2 VP/VR are much the same as VP S1 but seam to do rings and valve guides a bit more than the others and VS was the eco tech engines which other than a bit of a night mare to wire up would be the best choice as they are the same through to VY (as far as I know) so parts are pretty easy to get and cheap.
The convertion will be cheaper with the V6 as well as the kits are easy to install and you wont have as many cooling gremlins to sort.

Holden Rodeo gets Alloytech engine
Date:30/3/2006 Source:correspondents
Because of new emissions regulations, Holden has replaced the Rodeo ute's 3.5-litre petrol V6 with a slightly modified version of the 3.6 Alloytec V6 out of Commodore. The engine has been detuned from Commo dore spec' to produce a maximum 157kW/ 313Nm _ both more than the outgoing 3.5 V6.
The Alloytec is built at Holden's Port Melbourne engine plant and sees duty all around the world in numerous different models including Alfa Romeo and Saab. It had big boots to fill as the outgoing 3.5 had plenty of performance and wasn't afraid of heavy work.
im most defantly gunna run one of those davis high volume elcectric water pumps so cooling shouldnt be a problem. im not gunna just do this im gunna take atleast 6 mths to plan it and ask as many questions as i can . it mite annoy some ppl but i rather ask and plan now than have to do it with the motor half way in .disco-damo wrote: you wont have as many cooling gremlins to sort.

EFI sorts fuel economy out, breaking diffs??? WTF i could do that as quick in a V6 or V8 powered lux, no difference there mateydisco-damo wrote:Stick with the V6 Com conversion, the V8 convertions are just to much for the old rollux's to handle.
