Post by tuff 45 »

Hi, has anyone converted or seen a 80 series with the commodore 3.8ltr v6 in it. Just wondering if it has been done and if so what they are like power wise.

i havent seen it done i woudl imagine it woudltn be worth it power wise. while the v6 wil rev alot better than the standrd petrol it wont have as much low down torque as the standard. jsut my opinion anyway

Agreed. Can't see why you'd want to devalue your 80 by putting an underpowered, unsuited engine in it.

I agree, it would be a man of little mind who would put a V6 into a cruiser :?

Personally I wouldnt even put the 6.2 turbo diesel into one....7.4 different story :P

A petrol V8 I could understand. The V6 would be revin its tits of movin the cruiser......

When its torque you want its a diesel you get

Ive always thought to myself a v6 would be good in an 80....not for power, but they are a torquey motor and they run under water....pity the auto behind them will not last in a commodore let alone a 2t cruiser....
Other than that, spares are cheap and readily available, motors from donor vehicles are cheap, fairly light, compact, etc etc
I agree with the others as far as the 4.5 is concerned, a complete cruiser is less than 10k...you can have mine for 8....(94 gxl auto)

Or increased torque AND power with a turbo or supercharged petrol maybe not fuel economy though........

I got a fj 73 mid wheel base and did a conversion thought of a v6 commodore motor Dellow make a new bellhousing to bolt straight in. But i changed mind and went el ford motor fuel injected gained a bigger rev range and heaps mor torque now i can keep up with v6 commodores.
Only problem is if i give it heaps if wants to lift of ground. My next project is to fit a sprintex supercharger to it.

327 isnt big enough for a cruiser... a 2f'd out torque it (standard of course) below 3 grand.
