lt230 to zf?

lt230 to zf?
Hey guys got a 89 clasic rangie with the borg warner transfer. Just wanted to know If the earlier lt230 from the 3 speed auto will fit behind the zf 4 speed. I just bought a transfer and the serial no. starts with 14d so I figured going by the tech list this would be an earlier one. Any info would greatly be appreciated.

Hi,
you can fit the LT230 in place of the Borg Warner but you will also need to change the RH mount, front propshaft, hand brake mechanism also,
the 14D is a 1.003 ratio, this will be geared too high with a ZF auto,
ratios listed here :

Dave, isnt the first gear ratio on the TF727 and the ZF almost the same ? like 2.78 versus 2.75 ? In that case you wouldnt notice the difference, one thing to keep in mind though is that the LT230R has roller bearings instead of tapered rollers is harder to get rid of the backlash i believe.
Saddle up tonto, its the not so loanrangie! . 98 TDI DISCO lightly modded with more to come.
Have you driven a 1.003:1 LT230 and torqueflyte???
They could definately do with a 1.222:1 case as they are complete slugs.
I fitted one to a '85 and it would drive and tow 100% better. the owner said The fuel bill improved slightly also, but I think that was wishful thinking...
I also discovered the top speed was unaffected. 140kmh is achievable easily on the flat, but would still see 160 if left long enough.
