the stinger worked great

also why krawlers on the front and mtr's on rear?

Nice pics from a good looking comp.
our BFG's were still getting bolted to the rims

also the stinger done more then half its job

coming up to the big drop there was a climb that the stinger pushed straight up on with out it the front would have just pushed straight into the rock

and the rig has been over forwards and backwards a few times now and it is still running the same bonnet

so it has protected the motor and all the valuable parts

but in dirt the stinger dug in

...what a weekend. We were zombies on Saturday after a few days of zero sleep. Control arm bracket bent on the first run on Sat, broke front driveshaft, and we used up all our 45 mins breakdown time fixing it, so DNF'd all of the Sat courses.

We got through sunday and had a ball - aside from a few adjustments and some fine tuning, the buggy was awesome. And the dodgey front driveshaft held out until I was driving back to camp after the comp and it broke again on the dirt road!!

Huge congrats to Jamie - you really deserved the win mate, top stuff. Congrats to Pete for taking the series, and Adrian for your consistent competitiveness. And to all competitors, spectators, and officials - without you all there would be no WE Rock.

Thanks to everyone who helped us out with tools and expertise. Big thanks to Not Not and Damo for welder/generator, the young dude who spent hours struggling with the welder to fab a new bracket for us, Sean from ABT for all the help, Gonads from M&M, Pete from OPW for almost getting us wheels for our new tires (ended up runing the old clunkers)... and of course to Pip and Tim and Just Customs for all the work on the FireBug.

We''l be back in a big way in '07!

Good to hear the stinger doing its job. The dirt must have been very soft. It was a surprise to see photos of it going straight over the front. In the first photo it looks like it is just balancing on the stinger.
If it is protecting everything then it’s all good :D

Jamie I think it was last at the ABT boys camp they may have it in there gear by mistake
And the person who broke the gauge on my welder, we let you use our gear and expect you treat it as your own and look after it.

I WON'T BE LOANING MY MIG WELDER OUT AGAIN, NEXT TIME BRING YOUR OWN

That's if it even still works!!!!!!!

Thanks guys (I think??).

Micka/Harley - thanks for the generator - sorry if it was abused. We weren't policing who used it as everyone was just rocking up and using it... assumed they all had permission.

Not Not - first place I would check for your grinder would be Gonads... it may have ended up in his box... wouldn't be surprised if a few things ended up in his box as there were 101 people all using the tools etc in that area.

I am missing a few things as well, but mostly small stuff that I'm sure will be in someone's box next round.

Troll00... which one was your welder?? We used the blue mig which had a birds nest on the wire roll from the minute we got it... tried to straighten it out, and it worked ok but would sometimes stop feeeding wire.

Thanks Shane I did not think that a competiter would have taken it on purpose But there were a large amount of spectaters cruising around.
I will give gonads a call and see if he has it with him.

Maybe we need a list of anything that people are misplacing or have that you didnt start with.
As i seemed to have acquired a spare diff centre and short side 60series rear axl but i think they are Toms? Tools wise my tool box is still on the back of Mick Garners Ftruck so wont know for about a week but the grinder wasnt anywhere to be seen when we were packing up So i will check with gonads

The blue UNI MIG one is mine, that's the one you used, it's not meant for more than 5 mm steel and it stops feeding wire because it has over heated as it doesn't have a fan to cool it, it cools down and goes again after a few minutes. Your OK Shane you did the right thing by us!

We used both the generator and mig so thank you Damo and Micka/rockhammer crew. Both were working fine when we were using them. Damo I'm sure anyone that used it (would have to be at least 5 teams) would be happy to pitch in some $$ to get it fixed up for you, I know I'd be happy to. Find out what's wrong with it and post up, we'll pass the hat around and stop that burning feeling around your crotch/wallet region ;) .
Micka, gennie was working great and after you pointed out the lack of fuel we filled it to the brim and returned it the way we found it.
This is all a bit of a bummer because even though Steve and I didn't have a great weekend mechanically, we fixed it all up and I left there feeling very proud to be apart of a sport with such generous, friendly and relaxed competitors.
Thanks also to Adrien for the control arm to butcher into a driveshaft.

All good, Shane and Jeremy. ;)

The rip cord got broken and someone did a dodgy/pathetic attempt at putting it back together. It would have been good for whomever it was to come up and tell me...but it will be fixed without any dramas.

Big thanks to Troll00 for the use of his little mig. Our high steer arm held on enough to secure 4th place, but not long enough for the shootout round.

Thanks to Pete Antunac for filling up our gas bottles on Saturday afternoon. I am sure your Big Bird Buggy will turn some heads in the US, and hopefully upset a few people with a strong performance.

Huge congratulations to Tony Robinson  . That was by far the best run competition that I have seen. Your attention to detail was excellent and the organisational skills you have made the event run incredibly smooth. Well done.

To all of the judges/officials...thank you. I know what its like to stand out there all day for two days getting showered in dust and engine fumes. Every one of you were extremely friendly and easy to get along with. Maybe we will see some of you in buggies next year?

Not a great concern at the moment as i brought a new one for work this morning. I was not aware that any body borrowed it from the spares box and after mick garner asked me if i seen any one take his battery off the back of the ftruck we figured somebody had figured that they needed a few things more than us.
Gonads i may be down that way sometime in the near future to pick up a set of diffs so i will give ya a call and drop in if i can but if not i am shore it will be in good hands till i see ya at the next round Just keep it locked away so work cover dont fine ya :finger:
Jeremy you are right It is great to be a part of this sport with a great bunch of people that will do anything to help ya out. So i hope any up coming events are like the finals with good comradery.

Is all of this a bit of concern? I was at WE Rock and there were a couple of things that I thought could have been better, in saying this I don't want it to stop because of a few things that realy do need attenion.
1) I thought it was great but also a little bit poor how the general public had access to the pits, because of the security issues for the competitors as you have mentioned.
2) There was no policing of the people who decided to party well into the wee hours. I am a heavy sleeper but my son kept waking me because of people partying pretty loudly.
3) I never knew who was competeing at what time and which course.
4) I thought to myself that it would have been hard to be a competitor, mainly to find the way to the course they were supposed to be compeeting on.
These are just things that I had observed and I thought were a little bit rough.
On the good side though the runs were well thought out they gave excellent opportunities for both the competitors and the viewing public to get the most out of the weekend. The location was excellent for the majority of East coast competiors 2and a 1/2 hours from Sydney, 1 and a 1/4 from Newcastle and an easy highway run for those from Queensland.
These are just some things I had observed. Did any body think the same??

1. this will happen at every show you will ever go to..due to the nature of rockcrawling/4wding being in the middle of nowhere there is not generally a lock up facility (building) so to speak that would house 20 or so competitors and their tools etc..it is no different really to going to the shops or anything for that matter as it is a sad thing but people just cant be trusted nowadays...

2. yet another part of events like this is the party aspect of it or like Pip and Tim at round 2 being up till all hours repairing their diff...maybe a curfew could be introduced for future events ..something to look at

3.yet again due to the style of the sport and the courses that get driven there is always a huge risk of cars being broken, they then go into breakdown time which changes there running order entirely from the start of the day..therefore a posted running order for spectators would cause more confusion as it would be near impossible to keep it up to date.

4. competitors know their running order and if they go into breakdown time then they have to return to the course they were due to drive next as soon as they possibly can. they then are put into a new running order to continue onto the remaining courses..the competitors in fact have the easiest job of finding their correct running order and courses..

I thought generally all went very well. Talked to a couple of the guys... very accommodating and answered questions. I wouldn't say i was hooked enough to get into it.... don't know if i would have the balls to drive some of the rocks you guys did... but it was excellent to watch!!
I don't care about the partying... it's what happens at these events, and i was full enough to pass out... errrr i mean fall asleep pretty easily :D .
I was particularly pissed off with the tools that decided to drag a bloody great log around the camping area at a speed that would be dangerous WITHOUT the log flying around behind it....... i think it was the guys who spent the entire weekend drunk on the ride-on mower. Other than that, i'll be going to the next one  good job fellas
