L70 / Bundy limited slip in the rear?

Post by SeriousIIa »

I've heard that a LJ70 has limited slip in the rear. But not always. how can I find out if the set of axles I'm intending to buy have one? They are from a LJ70 from 89 and are for fitting on a SWB landrover.

Thanx for your input!

Cheers Bowy

To bad, it spins in a different direction. So I think no limited slip :(

I am not aware of any LJ70's having factory LSD.

For me I considered it, but went for an airlocker instead.

My 88 RJ70 came with one, I would be suprised if they were only in the petrol versions.

Check you axle code
mine is G144

which translates to
g 8 inch ring gear
14 4.875:1 diff
4 4 Spider gears locking diff

Fourth digit: no of spiders, ltd slip/locker
Code spiders
2 2 open
3 2 LS
4 4 Locking Diff
5 4 LS

My 1993 has limited slip diff in the rear.

On limited slip diffs there is a label on diff that says LSD oil only.

Also jack up back and turn one wheel. If other wheel goes same way it is limited slip diff. If other wheel rotates in opposite direction or does not turn at all (because the prop does instead) then it is not limited slip diff.

Easy as that. :D

Harry,

Found another Bundy. But one shaft is missing so can't test if it has a limited slip. The axle code = G142

Can't figure out what this means :( 4 is good I think. But can't place the 1 anywhere in the stats :(

Can you help out?

thx!

But I think is is the same as yours only without the LS or the locking :(

Is this correct?

Does anyone know if locking diff have been supplied to Europe as standard?

thx!
