5.29 or 4.88 ???

Post by hypo »

well i pulled my rear diff apart this arvo 2 install my air locker and wen i dropped the sump plug wot do u think i found ???

u guessed it..... a hand full of teeth........

this is like the 5th or 6th rear ring and pinion i have blown!!!!!!!!!!

altho Old Yella from the board has not blown any and he runs 5.29;s with a detroit rear and lockrite front.....(altho he dont drive as hard as me :finger: )

so my question is will i stop breaking them so often wen the ARB is in rather than the CIG????

or do i bight the bullet and go back 2 4.88's ???

my only concern is that my 2.8 turbo diesel running 4.88's may not have enuf grunt 2 push the 37's on the black stuff..........

wot 2 do ??

I would try it with the 5.29's and see how it goes with the air locker!

It could just be that the welded diff and driving it on the road is chewing it out!

Also now you have twin cases you will find that you won't need to bounce the rear over things anymore!

I Don't know if its BS but when I had my 4.3 V6 diffs regeared they said that the pinion offset was different between the 4.3 V6 housing and the 4.8. So if thats the case then you'd need to get different the V6 housings. True?

If the V6 ones are a issue why not go for the 4 cylinder Precision 5.29 gears from Allpro at $199 US
