Particles in Shell helix Diesel Oil?

Did an oil change on my ute this morning.After emptying all the new oil from the container into the engine I looked into the oil drum.I could see black particles in there at the bottom.


Do you reckon I should call them and complain?Is this normal?.Never seen shit like this in oil before.Probably cause the oil I usually buy is in a black container.


Should I dump this oil or do you reckon the filters will clean out the crap?

I've never seen 'particles', but my Castrol RX Super does leave some 'stuff' at the bottom of the bottle. Sort of thick brown (oil coloured) goo... I guess it's made up of particles. Tiny, tiny patricles.

I used the same stuff in my Rangie and once the oil heated up it would lose oil pressure, the motor had just been re-ringed and bearinged. Put penrite in and alls good

have seen it alot with diffrant oils i think this is why most use black containers. i recon its from the containers sitting around with the lids off waiting to be filled

Its all good, that what your filter is for. This is why u dont pre fill your filters.

In saying that i would still write into them, u might get some free gear :cool: :cool:

I use the same oil and i've seen the stuff as well, i see it just about every container, it has'nt done any damage yet :D .

Run the oil through a strainer (one of your Mrs' normal stockings - not your fishnets ;) ) before you fill the car.

Ive seen that in lots of oils. Its a metal chemical used in the mix. Shake the contaner 1st. It isnt gritty just dark.

Is this ash - a fine carbon residue that is naturally present in partially refined oil and which settles out over time in the container?.

Apparantly, the same thing happens with milk.

Said to be harmless.....

PS There must be something about this on the web....
