how to change uni joint in the bush?

whats the easiest way to replace uni joints? is a press the best way? how would you do it in the bush if you needed to?

could you change a uni with:

a flat head screw driver, cir-clip pliers, a hammer and a socket set?

IF you were in the bush and you actually needed to change one would you have a spare?? and would you bother or just drive home in front wheel drive?? This is a good question tho is is possible to change one with the tools listed above??

Yep, you can do it. I wouldn't plan on being in a hurry though. Maybe add a nice piece of hardwood to your toolkit, as it'd be a bugger trying to hammer out a uni against dirt.

i used to change unis for a living, and have never used a press to fit a uni except for the volvo trucks which had to be pressed in. all ya need is a hammer screwdriver circlip pliers depending on the type of ujs ya got and a vice for resting on. in the bush ya use ya roo bar if ya got 1.

nope, , its a piece of piss dude. i could rebuild a double cardan in under 15 mins in my hayday.

A friend of mine changed a uni in my Hilux while we were in the middle of nowhere. We had to send someone into the nearest town to get one. He used pliers, screwdriver, hammer and a socket set.
He took the tail shaft out, rested it on a log and went to work.

ive always had fair warning that a uni needed replacing, so if a person did need to replace one in the bush, maybe that person needs to work on their rig a bit more..
