If I was going to replace the turbo on the GU?

Post by Buckshot »

What would I look for to get for more performance.

What do West End Diesel or MTQ put on?

Could I just get a turbo off a Nissan Skyline and bolt er on?
Cheers

How would this affect the engine(besides more power). Will I have to upgrade anything else when bolting it on.How much would one of these turbo's go for.

AXT make an upgrade kit for the GU's that involves changing the turbine, turbine housing, manifold and dump pipe which brings it up a bit.

If you are only running "sensible" amounts of boost (i.e. < 10psi) no other modifications are necessary.
If it's worth doing - it's worth doing to excess ...

depends how much power your after....

if you want to do it properly i would go different manifold and a roller bearing turbo and a larger snorkle....

you will get much better results doing this if you choose to do a mtq upgrade you wont notice stuff all...

Where is the vehicle at at this moment power wise. You can get to 100rwkw with the standard tubo.

If you want more, then a larger one will be required, but you will sacrifice some low down power in doing so.

How much power do you want??

I'm not after engine life shortening power.Just a sensible increase.

I was just speaking to West End this morning to get an idea of what they do for the 4.2.He mentioned that they do a turbo rebuild changing the housing and vanes as a part of the package.Other bits being fuel pump worked on.Injectors worked on ect.

He was saying there is not much use doing work on the engine unless you were going to change the turbo.

I have spoken to another fella that said he had a TO3/TO4Garrett hybrid on his.I think the Skyline had a TO3.

Was just wondering if it would be cheaper to get hold of a turbo myself and send it somewhere to get it rebuilt and Hi Flowed.Which one should I be looking out to get.

Would the manifold have to be changed?

I went for a run in a GU with mods by Aaron Carlton at ATOC - $1500 and it went fuckin tons better than stock and EGTs were lower.. No new turbo, mainly exhaust, and pump timing.

also lots cheaper than going whole new setup, but whole new setup would get more, depends how rich you are, and what you want from the truck.
