just been wondering lately how much fuel the paj is using, so i filled him up to the brim last week, which should supposedly be about 72L, which is relatively correct.

and its been a week and i filled him back up all the way to the top again,

took 43.41L,

and the speedo reads 356km after the week. with the slightly bigger tyres, speedo is out by about 6%, perhaps more but this is being conservative.

alright so,

356 x 1.06 = 377.36km,

43.41L / 377.36km = 0.1150360398558405766376934492262

0.1150360398558405766376934492262 x 100 = 11.50360398558405766376934492262

so roughly im getting 11.5L/100km  thats all "city" driving, about 20km highway, and about an hours low range 4WD, 33" tyres,3L V6, shorty.

pretty happy with that :D thats all

yeh i thought this was rather good, considering theres no real highway driving done, most of it is around town, driving to uni and work, which consists of a fair bit of stop starting, i do try to drive rather conservatively though as im very conscious of the price of petrol, but i was still pleasently surprised,

by the way, is it bad to not use 1st at all around town??? when driving around i only ever start from second, does this put extra wear and tear on the clutch? i know we use to do it in small cars and try start them in fifth and do all kinds of stupid 5hit, but will starting in 2nd in the paj ruin anything??? he seems to be absolutely fine doing it, even with 33"s, i find 1st is absolutely useless unless on a big hill because i havent even moved yet and iv hit 2000 revs....just curious is all

11.5L/100km
thats awesome.

i think the best ive done(or been bothered to measure) was round 12.5l/100km and 80% of that was highway driving the rest was 4wding.

and on another note great to see ya car on the son of trails on 4wdtv last night.

and then this week made 265km and used 29.83L

making 11.3L/100km

its good to see that he works out to be roughly similiar each week, my driving style doesnt change much, always making shifts as low as i can and always thinking to reserve fuel, no highway and no 4wd this week, probably accounting for the little bit lower result,

all in all im happy how hes goin :D

dean ;)

and the spray can rattle i had i thought may have been the thrust bearing, has since gone and running absolutely fine again :) time to do a service

Have you corrected your speedo?

265/70/15 factory ~ 30 inch
33x12.5x15 modified ~ 32 inch (being a realist here  )

Circumference of factory ~ 94.2 inch's
Circumference of 33's ~ 100.5 inch's

= 6.3 % less k's than indicated

6.3% onto 265km =281.7km
29.83/282= 10.6l/100km

O and now I just read the 1st post  ....... ignore all of the above.....

hahaaha yeh thanks NJV6 iv been working these figures off by using 6% difference, like youve pointed out its prob a little more, maybe yeh something like 6.5-7% but yeh 6% being conservative, so as the figures are, im pretty happy all in all  got my quote for my trailer today so im sure thats going to fix my good fuel economy :x

oh man, this was like a deadset spray can just before it stopped, it started out really rare and soft and then as time went on got heaps noiser and the loud heaps worse and then its stopped, i was wondering whether it mneant the bearing or something had shat itself, but as long as its not making noise im happy, couldve just been something stuck in there, a rock, or stone or mud or something and ground itself down to nothing, hopefully anyways :?

12.5L/100 is bloody brilliant, I wish I was getting those figures... Pajero constantly gets 15L/100 around town, and Fairmont this week is chuging 14.6L/100

But meh, I dont pay for my fuel, so who cares

i used to get anywhere between 8.5l per 100 to 14l per hundred.
on average i got around 12l per hundred and thats accelerating quickly around town.

now in the patrol ive managed to get it down to 20l per hundred
