3.8 into Hi-lux HELP!!

Post by pistnbroke »

Hey guys, Dropped a VN 3.8 V6 into my hi-lux about 6 months ago. It did'nt take us long to get it running, however last weekend I back it out of the shed to sweep up then drove it back in again. This week it wont start!!
Has fuel at the rail and spark but she's a no go. Any Clues???
Cheers

make sure you have good strong spark.
Did you check fuel pressure with a gauge?
Also had problems with crank angle sensors. Try checking for fault codes?
Hope this helps

 not quite 600psi, should be round 300kpa, which i think is about 34psi.

yeah as mentioned check spark is good, check fuel pressure, check there is power at the injectors, and if possible see if you can hear or feel them ticking while trying to start.

More like 32-34PSI Defianatly not 600PSI. EFI fuel hose is generaly only rated top 300PSI.

Most common fault on a Como V6 is the Crank Angle Sensor.

get hose and try hosing the crank angle sensor (near harmonic balancer) and crank her over.. if she fires - the crank angle sensor is definitely stuffed.

That generaly only works if it happens while driving along. If it just wont start then it wont be hot so hosing it wont make a difference.

We had a work vehicle not start a while ago. I checked the spark and peeled the fuel line back a lil while they tried to kick it over, seemed to have fuel at the rails.

All in all it ended up being the fuel pump. If you can check the pressure then go with it. Otherwise take a punt and replace the fuel pump.
