MQ shakle bushes

Post by rob_rover »

Just brought a mq lwb 1982 model and it needs shakle bushes all around, the rear look to be rubber bushes but the front dont look to be rubber and i was told they have bronze bushes, Does any one know if you can replace these with rubber bushes without any mods needed to be done?
All your reply would be very much useful cheers rob

I have an MK with standard setup and recently replaced all my bushes, shackles and greasable pins without and problems. Give Carrels Springs a call. They have the complete kit and I found them to be the cheapest.
I used the synthetic ones and got rid of the rubber and steel bushes. Found that the original pins and shackles were worn more then the bushes once I got the old ones out.
Greasable ones are the way to go.

Hey herk did you just knock the steel bushes out and fix new rubber bushes in with out doing any mods to the shakle mounts? Were the rubbers bushes the same outside diameter as the stell bushes?

Yes the bushes have an inner and outer steel sleeve with rubber in between. i just knocked out the old rubber ones and inserted the new after getting rid of the rust and crud inside the eye of the spring. Same as on the other end of the shackle. Everything just swapped over. As I said Carrols make a kit to swap it over i just ordered the greasable type.
The new synthetic ones were tight but with a bit of grease slipped in OK.

For the complete kit. ie all bushes F/R all shackles and all pins (greasable) I think it was around $240.00. Carrols Springs I found to be the cheapest.
made a hell of a difference too.
