Help with new tyres please...what to do

Hiya,

I currently run Baja claws (radial 31") and there great but feel like I am doing a sin wasting them on the tarmak as I dont get out as much as I use to.
So I am thinking to either get a second set of tyres, keeping the claws for hard core trips and getting something a bit more sedate for a second set for everyday, but want to be able to use them for touring and general offroad stuff too, but not hard core stuff.

To be honest I dont think I ever really do anything too hard core and have never really tested the claws out to much.....bit limiting having as IFS, torsion bar and leaf spring set up followed by no lockers and a not so good working LSD in the rear

My previos set where the Cooper St's ...they where great but I am sick of the look of them as I had them on my MU for so long...the darn things just would not wear out, but the usual side lug problem .... but I dont want them again.

So at this stage thinking 32" M/T MTX's ..... dont want much vibration or road noise for my second set, but still a great All Round performer/tourer for High speed gravel driving, all rough surfaces within the limits of my vehicle specs anyway.

My second option would be to Sell the claws

and get something a bit more all rounder with a bit more aggression like the new MTZ's or STT's

Get the MTZ or STTA3 and trade the Radial Claws. They will drive nicely on the bitumen as an everyday tyre but still provide good traction off the beaten track.

radial claw's are a great allrounder keep them for high speed dirt and touring dirt roads and not to bad on tar either, then get some proper hard core bias ply tyre's

So you mean to tell me... he's noticed!?? Yeah, Wayne's alright.

STTA3 are the new Cooper Traction Tyres

They drive very nicely on the blacktop, wet and dry. Fairly quiet aswell.

Simex Centipede M/T are a 31x10.5R15 and cheap at $160-170 each. A bit noisy (but not as bad as some I've heard), OK in the wet on road (not brilliant...), but good/very good off road.

How much are those in a 33" or 285/75.16 Ryano?

Hi blumu.
for a good all rounder/tourer, I dont think you can go past the cooper ST.
However the STTa3 is awsome, great everywhere, (except wear)

This is after about 20'000 klm's 3-4mm wear, about 30% of usable wear. I would use them about 70% highway, 1% in town, 29% medium-hard core 4x4ing

what would the difference be between MTZ and STT....

One thing I know is that the MTZ does not come in 32's but the STT does.

And would they be Ok on 15x7 rims? (if I go the 32's)?

I have BFG mud, 35’s. have done 50tho with about 35% left.
70% road, 30% dirt. I like them all round, but think I’d like a stronger side wall for off road.

Due to it mainly being a road set.. It's hard to go past Wrangler MT/Rs... They are superb on wet road and great in dry. And they also hold thier own offroad too

Ive just got myself a set of 33x12 MTZ's from Fourbys. Great tyre so far....sooooo quite considering the tread pattern.

Grip well on the road, wet and dry.

MTZ my friend....performing well on everything and ok on sand and compared to phippsey's stt's to mine mtz @ 20 000 km mtz's win!

look better to imho

dont see ryano he's to expensive

just kidding he did me a good deal

get to fourby's and keep him off the outer limits for half hour

yep as most have said Trade the claws and get a set of MTZs They are the ducks nuts.
Had the miss pajero on the beach with them on the other day and didnt bother airing down ( i know i am lazy like that) and they were great

Much better then my old MTRs and all the all terrain stuff she has had on her car in the past. And it gives a stocko 2000 pajero a bit of cred with some good looking rubber on it aswell.
Or keep the claws and run a set of allterrain MTXs i think they are.

I've spoken with an MT reseller who had some in for his own truck, he changed his mind and went with STT's only cause they dont sell MTR's.

I just bought MTR's from Beaurepaires, $180 each in 31's. Seemed like a good price for a good tyre.

Recently put 33" Cooper STT-A3's in my patrol. Pretty happy with them. Look good on te vehicle too.

I went and saw Ryano today @ fourby's ...... got my self a set of 265/75R/16 MTZ sitting on M/T classic Look alloys
