Fantastic weekend. Thanks to Dan and all his organisers the Logan Challenge was fantastic. This was the first time I had been to Rover and it is a great park.

I want to say thanks to the Logan Team for a great weekend. Chris, Birdy, Julie, Shane, Ben, Phillip, Ryan, Matt & Jenny. Good company and a good team. Was fun to work, play and compete with all of you.

Thanks also to Ben, Ken and Gavin for the laughs - watch out for yowies.

"We are the champions".

Looking forward to next year but for now feeling muscles I didn't know I had!!!

the hill climb event was great to watch, i did the hill twice the day before but towing a dead fourby up there was just unreal to watch... the zukes of hazards lucked out (car wouldn't restart at the 400 hundred metre mark) poor buggers. i will definitey be entering next year BTW who owns the yellow dual cab gq ?

Well what a great weekend. I think this was one of the best Logan Challenges I have ran in. It was really well managed and aside from the last stage sunday, there was virtually no waiting between stages. Our team was finished all our day time stages on Saturday by about 1.00.

Cant remember the stage numbers etc, but here is a run down of team no ideas stages in order.

Our first stage (back up creek)
A rocky creek bed with a few logs across the track thrown in for good measure. Drive the creek bed in reverse till you got to a small rock ledge, turn the car around on top of the rock ledge and drive out over the finish line. Nothing too difficult here, but a bit tight in bigger vehicles.

Our second stage (worn out winch or something)
Drop down over a rutted bank and drive a rocky creek bed (suzi canyon) Then exit up a small hill. Drive to a gate and winch the first car about ten feet. Once the first car was clear you had to turn the winch car around and winch the rest of the team through the gated area. We were flying on this one till the cable over ran on the winch and buried deep in the drum. We lost a fair bit of time getting the next winch vehicle set up to take on winching duties but still posted a respectable time.

Our third stage (rock rash)
Drive a rocky plateau (previously used for XRCC and a few other comps held at rover) miss all the cones and drive over a rocky ledge then out through the finish. We thought this one was going to be the stage we doninated since our team was made of of rock crawlers and Tough tracks vehicle. BUT, On the final ledge I slipped on the shelf and broke my tail shaft in two. I backed down off the ledge and took out my tail shaft. We were hoping to snatch me over the ledge in front wheel drive, but we ran out of time just as I was about to attempt it for the second time in 2wd.

Fourth Stage Bush mechanic
The team was split into two groups (drivers and navgators) the drivers had to build a bridge and drive a car over the bridge to get a CV on the other side of the creek. The navvys had to remove a wheel from a car, then take out a CV. Once the drivers were back with the CV, the navvys could put the CV back into the car. We posted a pretty quick time on this stage.

This was the end of our daytime stages and I took the opportunity to go find some gal waterpipe and set about making a new tailshaft.

Just on Dark we all met again by the mud drags where we were all given a supplied meal (now that was great no cooking, nad Nat24 was no where near the cooking)

Fifth Stage mud drages
Two cars from each team lined up in a round robin style mud drage race. On my first run, I tried in 2wd thinking that the mud was not at all mud just watery dirt. On my first run I was in third gear liding all over the place before I got off the mark. Nearly caught the other guy by the end of the track, but the lack of traction cost me dearly. For the second run, I was in 4wd, and won fairly convincingly, but not enough to get me through to the next round on average time.
Aaron in the red GQ in our team made it through to the final with some very impressive runs. It was a shame he ended up racing that powerhouse defender in the last run. That thing just flies.

Stage six (GPS Run)
Well what can I say, DARK, DUSTY, and DECEPTIVE. It was a really well set up run with 20 points set up all over the park. The dust was an absolute killer, unless you were the car leading, you couldnt see squat half the time. How we mised some of those trees had me beat. Found that the park maps were not anywhere near scale and not all that accurae which made it pretty tough for some points. A few teams got disqualified for driving in non driving zones.

Sunday Morning
At this stage we were a little behind the leaders but still within striking range still. All we needed was two good runs and e were in with a shot for the big trophy still. In fact, I beleive that any of about four teams were in contention still. It was good to see this as in previous years, one team has nearly always been dominant right up to the final stage. I think the points system used was great because it meant that the points were close all the time.

Stage seven (gymkhana)
Drive through a marked course, touch a peg with the bull bar then run around the car, and do the course in revese again. We flew through this course with no penalties. We knew that we had done well on this course and if logan had bombed it. If only we could do well on the final course we may be in with a shot.

Stage eight (that damn hill #$$@@$%)
It was a dead car stage where we had to tow a dead car up a hill. We had a my cruiser ute (farkin heavy and with a highmount) A Patrol ute (very farkin heavy and with a low mount) A very light suzuki, a light chopped bundera ute and a nice light hilux. We rolled the dice and ended up with the heaviest car in the team. We put the bundera at the front, the hilux next, then the cruiser ute, attached to the dead patrol. We drove into the course and as far up the hill as we could, but we burried into the soft hill very quickly with the 50 point marker still a long way up the hill. The plan was to stop driving before we got a wheel spin penalty, but that just didnt happen. Once we got called for wheel spin, we stopped and hooked up the winch. As we only had one winch (the other winch was on the dead car) we went straight to a double line pull. Very slow going and lots of wheel spin we managed to get our last car over the 50 point mark just inside the DNF time. Not the finish we needed to take victory, but as it turned out, enough to snatch second place.

Thanks to all my team Rhett, Aaron, Keith, Aaron and Lynda, james and all the other navvies. Was a great weekend. Maybe next year we can come back and hopefully get a first place.

Logan won the hill climb, but did not get the dead car to the top. No one did. On that stage the key was to get as far as you could and get the least number of penalties. Most teams ended up with zero points regardless of how far up the hill they got. Each winch was penalty. as well as normal penalties. So it was a very tough stage to earn points on. Moreton districts got a long way up that stage too, but I think the fact that they used two winches simultaneously meant that every time the hooked up, they got two penalties.

Team TT Challenge

1. Bush Mechanic

Drivers built the bridge while navvy's did the CV change. We tought we did OK here with a time well under DNF and no penalties, not sure of our finish.

2. Back Up Gully

Again we had a fiarly good run although it took me a while to turn the Patrol around on the rock. No penalties, not sure of our finish.

3. Rock Rash

We drove this one hard and got all cars through to the finish just under DNF but had to use the snatch strap a few times and most of us hit the final cone getting out of the ledge. Shane broke a CV and BJ damaged a spring pack. We won this stage.

We took time at this point to repair the CV and spring pack, grab some lunch and fluids.

4. Warn Out Winch

Drove it well and had a strategy that worked well although it took longer than expected to get the winch car in place. We won this stage with no penalties.

At the completion of the day stages we were in 2nd last place and had a few hours off before the night stages.

5. Mud Drags

Weren't too confident in this having big heavy cars but managed to get the old diesel to the semi's, was looking forward to racing Aaron from Team No Idea but the draw changed and I lost to Matt in the big V8 dual cab.

6. Night GPS

Took us 1.5 hours to get the first point as we did not know the park at all and found several dead ends. Got lost on the way back and were disqualified for the team coming back the wrong way. Apparently if only some of the team came in the wrong way it wasn't a disqualification. I assume we came joint last with the other disqualified teams.

I think we were in last place after the night stages

7. Jack & Jill Hillclimb

Unfotunately my car was the dead car and we totally underestimated the hill. Didn't manage to get the 5th car on to the stage but finished 3 cars as we werent sure which rules were applicable to the stage. Got 0 points less penalties so probably came last

8. Gymkhana

I think we gota decent time on the figure of 8 course but the last car broke the tag pole when it finished which was a penalty and took time to fix. Came 3rd on this I think.

Overall we had a great time but had hoped to do better. Congratulations to the Logan team and all the other competitors. Also congrats to BJ on picking up the "Go Hard or Go Home" trophy. Thanks to Dan and the officials for running the event.

Team TT Challenge

1. Bush Mechanic

Drivers built the bridge while navies did a CV change. We did OK here, time well under DNF and No penalties.

2. Back Up Gully

We had a good run reversing up a creek bed then turning around on a rock ledge and driving out. well under DNF time and No penalties.

3. Rock Rash

We were the only team to drive this one and got all cars through to the finish just under DNF but had to use the snatch strap a few times and most of us hit the final cone getting out of the ledge. BJ damaged a spring pack and i managed to miss the cone but broke a CV. We won this stage and collected a trophy.

4. Warn Out Winch

We all drove the creek bed well and steve placed his patrol to pull up the two winchless cars up the short compulsory winch section. We won this stage with no penalties and collected another trophy.
-----------------------------------------------------
At the completion of the day stages we were in 2nd last place ... yep, second last !!
We had a few hours off before the night stages... we all thought there was something wrong with the scores but when we checked it was better to "call" the stage before time out than drive it and get penalties or run out of time trying and get penalties for not finishing... Looks like driving stage one stuffed our whole weekend for us.

5. Night Mud Drags

We weren't too confident in this stage having big heavy and slow cars not really suited to a straight line drag strip but steve managed to get his TD patrol to the semi's, he was supposed to be up against Aaron in the other TD patrol and the two V8s against each other but they changed the draw and the TD's both ran against a V8 and lost

6. Night GPS

Took us 1.5 hours to get the first point as we did not know the park at but we did manage to find a few dead ends. was almost impossible to see with the dust as we all had to drive to the marker point although we did find a few other points that we saved for when they came up, on the way back us and a couple of other teams were disqualified for coming back the wrong way past the drag strip. I presume we came joint last with the other disqualified teams.

I think we were in last place after the night stages
---------------------------------------------------------

7. Jack & Jill Hillclimb

We rolled the dice and steves car was the dead car.we hooked up three cars to try and tow him but it was impossible in the powdery dust and we could get penalties for spinning. we disconnected and Michael and i drove to the top and ran all the cables and straps i had down the hill while Linc tried winching and pulling steve we ran out of time and BJ was still parked at the bottom so our points were for how far the last car got up. Got 0 points less penalties so probably came last

8. Gymkhana

I think we got a decent time on the figure of 8 course, drive it once then reverse it back to the start/finish line but the i broke the tag pole on the finish line and we copped a major penalty and took time to fix. still came 3rd on this stage.
---------------------------------------------------

After we got over the dissapointment of the first Day stages we just got back into the "lets just try and finish each stage and bugger the points" mode
[ we did think about playing for points and just drive in a little way then call it but thats no where near as much fun] and just drove our usual way which was to have fun and enjoy ourselves ... for a team that only gets together on the night before the Logan Challenge we work very well together and i hope we can all get together again next year !!! Woo Hoo.
Congrats to BJ on picking up the "Go Hard or Go Home" trophy. Thanks to Dan and the officials for running the event. but most of all THANKS to all the members of our team for being such fun to compete with 8)
