Well After a Year long affair with my sweet little Zookie it has all come to a nasty end.
So now I am on the hunt for another 4wd and i am most likley Going for a Toyota.
My only problem is which one?
I want something I can sleep in the back of so seats which fold flat would be great, Looking more at a 4 door. Wanting to spend around 10K but can streach to 15K if the right truck comes along. Also Looking more for a Disel and nothing too old prefer early 90's but again if the perfect truck is older I will look at it)
So any ideas on what is best to look at?

80 series are wider, live axle, more powerfull, and heaps more room inside, plus feels like you are sitting in a lounge chair. For a 4.2TD $12k-$28k depending on year.
prado, ifs, smaller and narrower then an 80, the 3.0TD is rather quick (i would get a 3.0TD surf instead of this IMO) For a 3.0TD $10-$24k depending on year
4Runner/surf, IFS, narrow, 3.0TD again quick fast as a prado, maybe even quicker. Less room in the back for sleeping, but if you aint over 5`9 you should fit ok. To sit in feels like your in a deck chair. 2.4TD slower then the 3.0TD but everything else the same. If you get the chance go a 3.0TD much, much better. For a 2.4TD $4k-13k. For a 3.0TD $9k-18k

Actually I'm not allowed a 4runner f it's got IFS big brother has a feeling some odeals woeren't..

Runners were IFS after 86. If you want a SFA, you'll need the older shape or an SAS'd one.
The runners are great for sleeping in the back of, I've trimmed a sofa bed foam mattress and put it in a queen sized Doona cover, and it fit's perfectly. The back seats fold flat so you have a completely flat surface to sleep on. There's enough room for a minimal height set of drawers (will have to be from the front to back to maintain sleeping platform) and still have space to get in and out of when sleeping.
Bit of advise, in summer, park under trees when camping, because when the sun hits the canopy, the inside turns into an over.

There aint nothing really wrong with an IFS they can work rather well. When I had mine I went everywhere my mates went with their pootrols and big bum cruisers with between2" and 4" lifts. Occasionally i would have to take a different line but usually i could follow.
Unless of coarse you intend on going hardcore and wanting big flex from the front.

Draw a line between the wheel hubs and that surf matches the front flex from my LN106 hilux!
the prado 95 series is a lot nicer than a 4runner and surf- they spent a lot more on the soundproofing an interior of them- the surfs and 4 runners tend to look a bit "hilux'y" where as the prado is more like its big brother, the 100 series.
Prado has 160L of diesel under it too- thats a good 1500kms of range if your intending to tour.

BTW- the diesels only first appeared in the prados in 1999 (we have a 2000) and the v6 was only offered after 1996- a 2000 diesel RV spec is still asking $25,000 by redbook.

Well, I personally would go for an 80 series TD it also has a fuel capacity of 145ltr, but if its to big for you to drive I would go a 3.0TD surf.
The cruiser will flex better then the surf and prado.....
But it all comes down to what you are looking for. All things combined, size, fuel, mods planned, $$$
