100 bucks from auto elec.
[quote="raptorthumper"]I doubt it, unless it's a simple commutator turn and re-brush.

My diode's burn't out, so i chose the Bosch alternator, which is cheap and available in the thousands.

Dont doubt it mate

_Auto elecs will rebuild em for near 100 bucks

Thanks for posting the pics up Bruce--in that rebuild, i replaced worn brushes, bearings, exciter diodes and slip-rings. All the bits are still available from NIssan--diode bank can be a problem as individual diodes cant easily be replaced--you can drill them out and solder in generic replacements--EG Bosch

When the one in my diesel died, I got a brand new one on special for $660. Was told they are nearly a grand when not on special. So price sounds about right for the diesel version.

i sent an email to ashdown, reseller for AEA. asked for a quote on a alt3110, the hitachi 110amp unit for the patrol, the reply i got was
"Pete
Sorry but am unable to supply such a unit. We only do a standard 60amp
unit to suit this vehicle.
Regards
Colin"

so it doesn't look good.
cheers Pete.

Just recently got quoted on one...It might be $100 for the brush pack but it's more like $400+ for the regulator.

Bought a secondhandy but would have got a new bosch one if I could have got one for $250 or so.

Can anyone get me a part no. for this unit.

My mate works for Bosch, he did a search on their inventory for this unit and came up trumps.

So i had to pay $250 to have mine fully recoed (and that's just parts at trade)

It's 70 amps (original 55 amps)
Didn't have time to look around for a higher output one

Think they made a 100A one for later model patrol diesels. In the GU's maybe! I'd be keen to see what else is available in the aftermarket alternators as it would be nice to have around a 100A alt on board.

Don't know where GUJohnno got his, but I bought one last weekend from Ashdowns in Sandown. 70A, TD42, with vacuum pump, approx $330 (the guy gave me trade price). They're open Saturday mornings until 11:30am too !

this place continues to solve any issues i have with my gq.

my diesel alternator was on the other side of good for some time and finally got sick of having flat batteries. chased up the melbourne distributor and Aaron there was most helpful, cost $360, when i picked it up he said he'd sold 5 that day, must have been a bad day for patrol's.

anyway fitment was fairly straight forward, just a bit of a cluttered area as i have extra battery and snorkel all in same spot so bit fiddly and dirty but that's half the fun ain't it. now i have full charging and when iv'e got all accessories turned on they work as they should.

ta to all dave.

Thought i'd post about a firm in Melbourne, that is worth knowing about in the alternator thread.

I ended up getting a new starter motor from cool drive in Box Hill Melbourne for $285.00. (I didn't realize till later but there latest brochure had a list price of $195.00, so maybe a price rise occurred recently.)

They recently bought out a previous auto electrical supplier called OZ starter drive in Tullamarine, and moved to box hill.
They sell heaps of aftermarket starter motors alternators and air conditioning equipment etc for both the petrol and diesel patrols.
Yep, cheap starters and alternators for the TD42's for you diesel lovers.

The website is http://www.cooldrive.com.au/

and I suggest people look at there latest brochure (mainly pages 5 and 6 of)
