Where can I get super strong C.V's for a YN63 Runner (IFS)? I figured they're need replacing, may aswell get good ones....

I have read about porsche 930 CV's being used, they are physically much larger, and stronger .. and they also have a higher angle of operation .. Check out some of the go fast (look for toyota prerunner suspension setups) yota sites ... From what I can recall is was rather spendy though ...

I asked specifically if there was any improved C.V's for MY truck, not what you would do if it were yours. Your post was not helpful in any way. all you did was state that you believed IFS was piss weak. So people don't have solid axles, vent your dismay at the manufacturers, not at those that own the truck. Yeah, sure, if I could have SAS, I would, but guess what, I don't! The ifs cvs rarly break and are cheap as chips your weak point is your diff and lack of wheel travel and for the price of longfields you could do a sas or get a locker or source a high pinion ifs diff centre.
I now have a live front end rig and it goes places by its self that I would,nt even think about taking ifs with othere rigs for recovery because it will break.

I HAD AN 87 4RUNNER IFS WITH A DETROIT LOCKER IN THE FRONT AND AIR LOCKER IN THE BACK. I NEVER BROKE A CV IN THE 7 YEARS THAT I HAD IT, I REPLACED ONE THAT WAS AN ORIGINAL. WE DID ALOT OF DRIVES WITH LIVE AXLE TRUCKS THAT BROKE CV'S ALL THE TIME. SO I WOULDNT SAY THAT THEY ARE AS WEEK AS PISS, IT DEPENDS ON HOW YOU TREAT YOUR VEHICLE!
the problem with strengthening the cv birfield on IFS rigs is you will stop cracking the bell part of it and start breaking the inner axles. My suggestion is that you alter your driving style so as not to be so harsh on the front end that you break cv's. Try not to allow the wheels to lift, spin in the air then come back to ground spinning with the weight of the vehicle to stop it.
Unfortunately, whether you believe it or not, you are limited in the punishment you can put IFS through, it is desinged to give a comfortable ride over bumpy terrain at speed, not hardcore rockcrawling.

But you will never get the travel that the SA guys have with IFS hence why a SAS is on the cards for the future.

my research on ifs ............ back wshen i had a triton (stronger front end than any lux ifs) told me that to make ifs strong u had to spend a good few grand.
stronger cv = broken diffs = stronger diffs = arb then you have a locked front = more broken cv= porsche cv's or sas conversion
basically leave it alone use the cv's as a "fuse" cos they alot cheaper than diffs.
or spend the same money as it takes to make ifs half as strong and go sas
i kno you dont want to hear it but for the coin you will waste on ifs you coild have a bundy or older lux front under it and be over the hassles

OK, so my answer is, that normal CV's are strong enough and there is no need to source anything stronger when I replace them (because they need replacing anyway- as all parts do eventually - not because of my driving style) I didn't break them, I'm just replacing them as they are on their way out
