EGT Temps

Ive just installed a egt guage on my 4.2d with an aftermarket turbo and runs 16psi. On the highway the egt sits between 250-300 depending on hills etc, when ive been doing hill climbs and stuffing around it gets up towards the 500 mark when making it work is this an average sort of temp to expect or not

My Safari Turbo sits around the same temp as yours--on a long uphill with lots of hard acceleration, it can get up to 550 deg, but comes down fairly quickly when you back off accelerator.

Is that pre or post turbo? Where did you get it fitted and how much was it, if you don't mind me asking?

but with just the boost wound up and abit more fuel with the factory sittings and used to get high.

Sold it to me and fitted A really cool turbo intercooler system. Running 26psi boost and lots of fuel.
I planned on hiflowing it and with the 3" dump. Running a full 3" exhuast. So supposedly produces good power. With out to much noise and has low EGT. Add an intercooler and things will be better again.

Temperature after turbo--probe in dump pipe. $4100 drive in/out fitted by ARB Northern. Very happy with install and goes like the clappas ;)

cost me about $380 i think fitted to the dump pipe just got a standard vdo guage nothin flash tells me what i want to know, how much would temps drop fitting an i/c

Yer Sparky has a thread on here somewhere. Not sure if the pics are still there. But his system is custom, using I think a safari manifold. Intercooler was built for a skyline. But is a hi-end kit, think it was a HKS kit.
As for what I am going to do with the GU factory turbo kit. mmm Not sure if I am going to use it now after driving sparkys ute. As there is alot of dollars in his.
But if I keep the GU system. I will hiflow it. Juzza will be the mechanic, dont know where he sends them to get done though. Other than that I would put an intercooler and eventually do the pump mods..
Even with out the intercooler and pump mods this should be able to get low EGT and good power.

But its all up in the air at the moment. As I am still driving a Petrol/gas shorty. That I gotta sell first.

As for where to put the EGT probe. A hole was drilled and tapped just before the turbo on the factory exhuast manifold.

I'm looking for a place in Melb (Knox area) that can install an EGT meter pre turbo, and maybe a boost guage.

I called the only turbo place that I know of that is close by and has a good reputation (Nizpro) but as it was a diesel, they had a chuckle and seemed to think I should be going to a diesel place. I lost respect in them instantly. You might have to use a different temp probe, but I didn't think the ability to drill and tap a hole in a manifold was so far out of their ability as soon as you changed the type of the exhaust gas on the inside!

Oh well, their reputation tarnished, not mine.

Am I rite in guessing you've had the pump tuned? My unmodded TD42T (no i/c) is currently running 10psi and shows 200-300 deg C in "normal" driving. Throw the 1.9t van on the back and add another 100-150 deg to the reading. Post turbo courtesy of BE dump pipe (3" exh.).
