Toyota 3VZE V6 Knock sensor location/problems

Post by dawg runner »

Hi guys,

Was just wandering if anyone can help me with the location of the knock sensor on a Toyota 3VZE V6?

I think it is located in the valley underneath the intake manifold between the 2 rear welsh plugs.

I have had the car off the road for the past couple of months getting the heads reco'd and sorting out a few other issues such as corrosion and damaged threads & I have finally got it all back together and running. Thanks to Bart (Toyo truck) for all the help.

I got it back from the exhaust place this morning, as i needed them to lengthen the y pipe that came with my extractors to join up with the catalytic converter, as the pipe was too short.

On the drive home the car hesitated a little with about half a pedal of gas and the ECU light came on. Only a short drive not even 2 minutes.

When i got home the first thing i did was reset the computer to clear any codes that were registered as the car had been running without an exhaust in the driveway for a while during flushing the cooling system. I jumped the TE1 and E1 terminals to put it into diagnosis and it gave me the no problems registered code with reds on. I left it in diagnosis mode and set the timing as it says to do in the manual.

With the timing know set i raced the engine a couple of times and then re-checked it. It was out by approx 5 deg. I repeated all the processes above and set the timing again and the same problem occurred.

I checked to see if a code was registered and it was the knock sensor circuit open code.

I have checked my workshop manual as thoroughly as i can and i can’t see anything about where it is located.

So i guess i have 2 questions.

1. Where is the knock sensor located on the engine?

2. Does knock sensor circuit open mean exactly what it says and there is a dodgy wire or a wire off?

Any help would be appreciated as i my car has been down for a while now and am just really keen to get back into wheeling.

Thanks guys

Dave
