A vice is handy. But yes, as was stated, get a socket that sits just inside the lip, and a decent hammer, and start beating the living snot out of it. It will either shatter, or start pushing out the other side.

i tried all that, then cut the shit of a thing out with an angle grinder.
the disc didn't touch anything that wasn't replaced.

The best bit is installing the new unijoint.Fit one cap in with center piece in place. In a perfect world gently tap oppisite cap on .Reality and the real world, a fair chance that one of the needle rollers will dislodge wilst the cap is being tapped on,This will only be dettected when the cap will not go all the way in to allow the cir clip on.Now all you need to do is remove the cap that has been almost all the way on with out stuffing it.This may accur several times with more than one cap. This can be the beginning of that love- hate relationship that people speak of when owning a 4wd. :D

A better way than Dynas advice above, is to use the same socket and a vice to reinstall. Use the socket to push the cap into the tailshaft. This generally doesnt dislodge the needle bearings. It also helps to grease the outside of the end caps where they go into the shaft.
