Q's On Performance Computers for 3.9L Disco's??????

Post by POS »

I have read about people using Perfomance Upgrade Chips or comps to not only gain power but to improve fuel economy!!

Has anyone or do you know of anyone that has used these???

My main point of interest is Fuel Economy!

Is there a Dramatic effect on the fuel savings?????

and how much are these and is there any other mods required eg. Larger exhaust etc etc?????????

Oh the extra grunt is also a bonus! ;) ;) ;)

By the way, i do realise that there will be no improvement in the fuel economy if i use the new found power and drive like Peter Brock.

My missus uses the Disco more than i do and she drives very conservativly (sp) :)

oh bazzle, before I forget..

how did you find out about any mod you have done to your car? word of mouth, or you have heard some stories? I'm sure you have heard a story where something does x or y and you go and get it..

I'm pretty darned sure that you aren't some supernatural type of person who can foresee what something does before you buy it?

ftard..

Back to the original thread....

I used to have a 97 Subaru RX and had a Wolf 3D installed in it.
I can honestly say that it was farking cool I used to get about 400 (city) – 600 (hway) Ks from a 60L tank on the original ECU after the wolf install I think the best I got was close to 800k in the highway and about 500 in the city the problem was the extra power was so much fun so the economy side went out the window!!

Now I know Bazzel you can’t compare a 2l 4clyn to 4l v8……. But do the math it all works in the economy favour as long as you drive to suit!!

When I have time and money the wolf ECU that was in the Subaru is going in my Rangie 3.9L V8

Hey can anyone back this post up more and maybe con me into getting a chip?
I have an 88-89 3.5efi with Extractors and mandrel bent exhaust which helped my economy a far bit (I run premium) I have herd that a chip acompanied with what i already got is a great combo ( is this true ) I want to be able to get 500k constantly out of my 80L tank (so far best i have got is about 450 or abit more)

ChipTorque is just down the road from me and they have chips for my engine....... anyone got any comments on them?

G'day POS

Have a look at the Megasquirt DIY computer system that you build yourself from components you buy in kit form. For about $200 AUD it seems to be worth considering. There is a web site, a forum & mailing list and the group appears to be very friendly and willing to help.
The site is at : http://au.groups.yahoo.com/group/oz_ms/
I've ordered my kit through a 'group buy' which saves a fair bit of $$$.
Haven't received it yet but am looking forward to building it and putting it into the 'NR' (see at http://mediaservice.photoisland.com/auc ... 992194.jpg)

IMHO...

'Piggyback Chips' are CRAP!!

they trick yr std ECU and don't have as much play for Fuel/air mixtures...

and for the cost of them about 1K go the extra and do it once and do it properly!!!

Best of all with an after market ECU (not piggcrap) Sir Lucas can go suck himself cause you don't need the air flow meter anymore!!!

My 3 cents!!
