G'day G'day,
We had an interesting night at the Navnight, Our first Event.
HARDCORE!!! comp, we broke a CV before it even started!!
just trying to get between the stages! We went off to do a practice winch before the event and discovered we had a busted CV, Bugger!! Luckily had two spares so took 1/2 an hour and put a new one in. We think it must have already been broken as it was a simple boghole, HG kept yelling at me to put in 4wheel drive but it already was :(
First Stage for us was Stage 4:
Smithy's stage, compulsory winch then good rutted climb up a short hill to the finish gate. Great first stage.
Stage 5:
Youngs Rock ledge!!!
Saw Bidders in his monster V8 45series cruiser corkscrew a tail shaft, bust a CV and break his plasma, then saw Pete in the monster green turbo petrol GQ drive the ledge!! massive ballsy effort!! We opted for a safe double line pull over the ledge and took a bit of time but got there, great fun!!
Stage 6:
Youngs off camber Rock ledge:
We had a great plan and were looking forward to the ledge, but came to grief on a nasty corner with a hidden deep hole that put us on our side into a tree, Busted windscreen, mirror and flattened A pillar....DOH!!! had to DNF the stage and get winched back onto the level. Bugger was looking forward to the ledge too. We were first car on the stage and were thanked by the crews that were waiting to start the stage as they said they would have probably had a similar fate if first car. (Note to self, never go first car on stage if can help it)
Stage 1:
With our nerves shot to pieces we drove to stage 1. Hard Up Haul.
At the start of the stage we were told that we couldn't walk the stage before competing, which didn't sit well with Andrew or I so after the count down we drove to level ground and stopped the car and went for a walk to have a look as the stage had a 30min DNF. After surveying the course which had two rather nasty off-camber drop-ins onto the track we decided to DNF this stage and save the car for the next stage (not worth the risk) We then watched Pete, then Bidders complete the stage, awesome to watch, few scary moments, then the third car to the stage was Kermit who unfortunatly rolled his car (nobody hurt). Andrew and I were happy we made the choice to pass on this one.
Stage 2:
3 Ledges:
Short fast section followed by 2 ledges then a large 3rd ledge. The two cars in front (Bidders and Paul) drove the ledges so we decided a single line pull should be fine, unfortunatly the front 2 wheels were hanging in the air so it was a very hard winch, after going back and setting up the double line pull we DNF'd the stage be 40sec!!! as we ran out of time, BUGGER!!!!
Stage 3:
Dry Creek Run:
We had walked this stage earlier in the day at had decided that the offcamber drop into the creek bed had a very good chance of us wrecking the roof on a tree as the car tipped into the creek. We were knackered and had enough carnage for one day so decided to call it a night.
Overall we had a great night, lots of fun. Thanks to Rudi, Hobzee and the Marshals.
Cheers,
Team VK Surf.
P.S. (If only there was an IFS class, then we would have been 1st at something......ignore the fact we were the only IFS
)
Bloody IFS bugger who slows down the SAS boys.
