Surf/4runner idler arm bending problem.

Post by Surfin Alec »

Anyone else managed to bend an idlerarm on a IFS Surf/Hilux. I have managed to bend 2 in the last 6 weeks. The shafts have bent in the box that bolts on the chassis between the 2 bushes.
I am thinking of maybe sleeving the shaft with a brass bush and greasy nipples so there is no slop and therefore no more bending...maybe.
Anyone got any ideas???

This is a very common problem with all the IFS 4runners/Surfs. N probably the IFS hiluxes too.

I believe Downey in the states has a idler arm gusset available but probably only for a left hand drive... U may be able to make one, or get one made if u check out theres...

solid axle converion with crossover steering - problem solved :)

otherwise yeah I'd look at custom fabbing something bulletproof if the factory idler is weak.

I have done 2 as well..........

The best fix (in staying with the IFS) is to bolt on a steering bos from a left hand drive car. you will need to get this imported most likely!! :?

maybe yas are hitting shit to hard!?

if the bushes wear out and there is movment then ya start having problems, replace the bushes as soon as there is any movment. they cost about $5 and take 10 mins to replace!
