repairing uhf coax cable

Post by PJ.zook »

A loose zook bumperbar has rubbed thru a lot of my uhf antenna coax about half an inch from where it enters the arial.
It has rubbed thru the insulation and about a third diameter of the wire, but didnt get to the central wire.
Can you fix this? Can you take apart GME antennas and resoldier the coax internally in arial?

you will have to replace the cable if it is affecting performance.

If it's the sort of arial where the coax runs up the centre, then you should be able to pull it apart and resolder the connections and remove the stuffed bit of coax.

Depends what sort of antenna it is...Some of the big GME antennas need a special tool to take them apart

100% you can repair it by replacing it with another length of coax! dont take short cuts weather its affecting performance or not and sticky tape up where its worn cause if water gets in yah coax it will stuff things up! ;)

x2. The cables are rated at a cetain resistance ( ohm) . If you alter this in any way, it will alter the performance of your uhf.

You can unscrew the end, remove the damaged bit and resolder it if you have enough slack in the cable.
