I have a 95,Hilux the powerful 2.8D .Seems to have a small problem at present. Over the last couple of weeks when I pull up in the drive way, turn car off,get the keys outif the ignition and open up the shed, start car again, drive into shed.WhenI go to turn the car off again it keeps running. The radio turns off (can hear the revs drop a little) but she keeps running.I have to turn key on/off a few times to get it to stop or stall the car.
Could this be as simple as a faulty ignition,or could I be looking at something a lot worse.
If its ignition, where is a good spot to get a new barrel from a long with new door locks (I like having 1 key to unlock the lot)
Thanks

I would be looking at the idle stop solenoid which is found at the top of the rear part of the injector pump. Just look for that rubber dust cover with a wire coming out of it above the 4 injector pipes, but under the mixture adjustment screw.
It sounds exactly what ive come across before, as you can start it ok, so the solenoid is working, its just that it wont stop when you want it to.
Remove wiring, remove rubber dust cover, blow out area with air to remove dirt etc, undo with spanner and check the following.
A that the spring for the plunger is still alive that pushes down to stop the fuel flow when the key is off.
That the rubber end of the plunger is not damaged, or that there is no foreign material under it that would stop it from sealing.
Also check the filter there too, be carefull, its pretty delicate.
Mates hilux 2.2 L motor had serious running on probs, took out the idle stop, and it didnt have a plunger spring. when it was turned off, gravity just allowed it to drop over the port and stop it, but mostly it wouldnt seat, and thus leak fuel into the port, and the engine continued to run.
Got one of those 4 colour pens, as the springs are just the right diam, and cut to length, worked a treat.
Ps dont forget to go to a diesel shop, and get a new o ring, as the old one will most likely leak if you try and use it again.
Let us know what you find.
