No powerup options will be cheap... simple as that.

Unichip?
4.8 Patrol in some countries has different fuel mapping and produces over 200kw.Quality of petrol might be a issue too

The process should be pretty simple the engine in its basic design is like any other rice motor cept there us 4.8 litres of it, so any rice specialist could probably help or at least lead you in the right direction.

Turbo it, intercool it, computer tweaking (various means) anyone hazard a guess at the potential of this thing. Should be huge considering there are untouched heads, manifolds, exhausts, internals to play with,

You can stroke the 4.8 to 5.2 using the Bryan Crower stroker kit, but that comes for a price. Change the ecu to Motec, change the cams, get the headers and exhaust done, also get the air intake sorted out. Should get you over 40 - 60 extra hp.
Of course you can go for turbo charging it but for that you would have to bring it down here to Dubai, UAE cause middle east is the mother of patrols and land cruiser especially the 4.8 engines, why Dubai because this is the place where you see patrols and land cruisers leaving lambos and ferraris behind...

What do people do with second hand aftermarket goodies once they've destroyed their Patrols in the middle-eastern desert? More of this stuff should be on ebay!

Buedesert exhaust do a kit for the extractors and full system. I think it is around 800 or something cant remember.

This will help a little but to get the most of this mod you would need to probably unichip it. Around 1200-1300 installed and tuned.

K&N filter???

Not sure what the desert racing boys do with the air intake but I think the air box is generally a good one

My bog stock 4.8 wagon on 275's manual trans has 171hp at back wheels so 200 rear wheel should be doable for reasonable money

My dad use to have a 4.5p the he had turbo'd and intercooled at Safari (APS) went like a bullet. I dont know if they do a kit for the 4.8's but it might be worth having a look at. Only bad thing about it, he ran into the new owner a few months ago, apparently it through a rod or something similar not long after dad traded it in.

Thats why when u turbo a 4.5 u need to back to GQ rods.

Another power up option is to get the motor stroked as someone suggest Sandy at aus4wd has done this and estimated power is over 200rwkw

Unichip + good headers should be good for 15-20kW on premium.
Good thing about the Unichip is its easy to take with you...and have good resale.

Just wondering if anyone has anything else to add to this thread. Got a 4.8 myself and wouldn't mind getting some extra herbs.
