Truck air horn
Hey,
With increasing annoyance of people knowing how to merge i am thinking of putting a real truck style air horn on the zook under the bonnet.
Wondering what air supply and configurations is there to run one of the long air horns. Also how much and I looking at for buying one. I am guessing i need a horn/purge valve/solinoid setup and button.
I am aiming to run a endless air setup with the orig zook aircond pump and a small tank.
Thanks
Nic

I had one on my Lux (and am going to put it back on one day).
I had it setup with a manual push button solinoid valve with the airlines running up into the dash.
What I am going to do when I set it up this time is use a 12 volt airlocker style solinoid. This will run to a 2 way switch that will tap into the horn wiring from the steering wheel, Switch up for standard horn - Switch down for air horn .

Wolo has designed the Orient Express Horn to be smaller in size so to fit into engine compartment's that have less open space. Four (4) brass triple chrome plated trumpets produce the powerful train horn sound. The Orient Express will provide the driver with comfort of knowing that he/she will be heard! Requires an on-board air system with a minimum of 3-gallon storage tank, (recommended Wolo on-board air system is Model 840). Built with a heavy-duty 12-volt electric solenoid. The Orient Express comes with mounting hardware and 10 feet of ¼" nylon high-pressure hose.

I have them on my F150, under the left guard, to scare cyclists
I bought the pair of horns, air switch and tank from the wreckers for $100, then ran a shrader valve to the tank, so I can fill it at the servo. The line goes into the cabin to the dash, then to the horns.
Servo's only let you fill to about 65psi, and that lasts forever with the tank I have (maybe 10l?).

I got a truck air horn form Wanless truck wreckers for about $30 with the solenoid, hooked it up to the ARB compressor but the solenoid doesn't like working when the compressor cycles off at 110psi. Works when pressure is dropped to about 85psi so I'm not sure if they have a specific operating pressure range or not. Haven't been able to get a straight answer yet.
The box has no brand on it, just sk-650bogged wrote:got photos of em?? what sort?Ezookiel wrote:I bought mine brand new from patrolden for $40.
This photo is the one patrolden put up of his. It's the same as the one I bought from him.
I'll see if I can find the video link he had of it being used.
He mounted his under his bonnet, but I've yet to find somewhere to fit the bugger. My stupid cyclopac airfilter prevents mine going where he put his. They're damned big.

That's the link to his video of the horn in use.
Apparently, as it was filmed from in cabin, the volume is much louder than the vid does justice to.
Hope he doesn't mind me stealing his links for you. But since it's to help out a person looking for the same stuff as him, then I don't think he'll mind.

Liked the train sounding horns and can understand to a degree why ppl are going to that extent, which how sound proof new cars are. They can't even hear police sirens when they have the windows up and the radios on.
But alas I only have 2 sets of standard tripple air horns under the bonnet, one set each side of the engine bay.

here's how i mounted mine under the bonnet.
It can be heard a kilometre away I run it at no more than 100 psi... thats what my compressor shuts off at. The solonoid for the horn is built in, and it runs on 12 or 24 volts...... i love it
btw... the tank is an old fire extinguiser
