fj40 coil spring removal

fj40 coil spring removal
i just bought a shorty 40 82mdl it has a very stiff ride and it has coil springs on top of the leaf springs. is this normal for this model?
can i just pull the coil springs out to give it a softer ride?
also i need to get a roll bar for it is there anywhere to buy these of the shelf?

How many leaves does it have? Outback suspension does mods where they add coils to leaf sprung vehicles but they usually take out most of the leaves. I had a Hilux with this done front and rear and it was great. It only had two leaves in the front and three or four in the back. When you disconnected the leaves from the eye mount they actually sprung down so that the vehicle was riding on the coils only until a mega compression when the leaves kicked in for assistance. The leaves were basically only there to locate the axles. Perhaps yours was done by someone with no idea though....
It may have a sticker if it was done by Outback but the easiest way to tell would be that it is a great improvement over standard. It sounds crap so it is probably a back yard job. If the coil looks like it is well mounted then you could experiment with removing some leaves or just take out the coil.

im about to take the coils out as i think they might stress the chassis rail too much where its not ment to.
i have ironman shocks, does anyone know if these are a really hard type of shock.
As that may explain why the front is really hard considering the front doesnt have coils aswell.
are there different stiffness of ironman shocks? and how would i tell what type they are?

i'd check the chassis for cracks around the coil locaters as to harder coil puts to much weight in one spot causing stress cracks. the right coil and leaf set up evens the weight over 6 points of the chassis per end.

No, thats about the angle that they are std. If you pull some leaves out of the packs it should improve the angle of the shackels a bit but you will loose some ride height. That said you will also improve the atriculation (if your shocks allow it) and ride. Just know that taking out too many my cause some axle wrap. The reason those are almost upright is because they look like there 2"ish extended
