Thanks James

toperi challenge

Post by 4x4chrissy »

Just off the phone from one of the poor sodden souls who got there early .... the storm was a beauty .... blew just about everything over including a camper. The OnAll4s marquis is a tangled mess ... about the only thing unaffected was the loos  They are mopping up ... emptying the litres of water out of tents etc now. Weather radar looks clear now so looks like those who wanted to turn up at 3am might have had the best idea

That's a bugger Chrissy, but I know how the boys feel. Same thing happened to our marquee (Blue Mtns) at the Trials last year

Well, I'm heading off at 6.30am, and yes, the weather better be clear!

The main roads to the property are ok
But the dirt road from the house up to the comp area Is already really muddy and could be a problem tomorrow if it doesn't stop raining

Hey guys.

Thought you might like some pics from the first stage of Toperi. The course was a lot more challenging then some competitors thought, with several busted diffs, shafts and other panel damage being the norm.

Congrats the Canobolas 4wd guys (and girls) for an excellent run event. Let's hope we see it back again next year.

If any competitors want some pics of their vehicles, just send me a pm. Happy to accomodate. Couldn't make it to the rest of the stages, as work got in the way. Next year, I will definitely stay the weekend.

Congrats to the Canoblas club. Great event with nothing I could think to fault. Facilities, catering, camping, organisation and the attitude was first class.

The track set was excellent with just the right degree of difficulty for an open class event so that the big trucks had a challenge, but the smaller ones still had a reasonable chance with some good rock packing and navigating.

This was a very worthy fill in for Woodpecker which I think many, like myself, hope that Tony gets the council support to run again.

Well done guys & thanks to Tony and family

Good pics. My car is the white suzuki if you have any more?

Great comp and had a good feel to it with no negative attitude or bad sportmanship.

Really good effort Canobolas. Will look forward to competing in future years.

Scores?

Thanks from the ACT 4wd club team

After a massive weekend for us we are all buggered.

Thanks very much to everyone who attended, it was a pleasure to have you all. It was the best behaved crowd we could have hoped for.

The first 3 overall placings are Pete Antunac & Peter Hilton first, second was Mal & Anthony Haber, third was Wayne Rumble & Travis Hartfield. Best car on 35" tyres or smaller was Brian Page from Lithgow, Best Drive went to Mark Borg driving all stages with 0 penalties.

Will post all results tommorrow.

Well done Tony & the Canobolas team for a great event!!

I have a great view doing some of the video work, and the feedback I heard from all competitors was very positive about the tracks and the event.

Just a question tho', was it Mark Borg or Matt Borg who was 'best drive'? (just to confuse the issue ;) ).

Cheers

What agreat effort by Tony and all the guys from the Conobalas Club. I get to drive once a year and had a ball, and I hope that you can continue running Topiri for many more years.
The tracks were great, your officials did a great job and you should all be very proud off your efforts.

Fisrtly well done to the Canobolas 4WD Club. For your first comp, you did exceptionally well.

Just a few points from a Spectator:
- Plenty of competitors. Not the ones I usually see at TTC and Willowglen. Was great to watch new competitors!
- Recoveries were quick. While I wouldn't say they were always the safest, they were very quick. As the competition becomes more popular, you may have a few issues though, needing to move the crowd to get vehicles off the course.
- Organisation needs to be tweaked just a little. The recoveries were nice and quick, and then we sat and waited while what seemed to be the drivers brief for that course was completed. I'm not 100% on the logistics of each course, (ie, the course cleric must oversee the recovery AND complete the driver briefing) but maybe the driver brief could be completed while the recovery is taking place? I noticed it picked up pace on Sunday, so maybe you sorted it out. :D
- No fires. I know, with the wind it was too dangerous. I also know it's beyond your control, I just love a good campfire!
- $$$. I know the cost will possibly go up next year, but $20 for the weekend was great!!! (Yes, I'm a tightwad :D )
- Same rules on each course?? I heard on Sunday one team were told on stage 3 not to put the wich cable inside the cab, yet they had done it on another course??
- I'm going to get flamed for this, but I'd like to see penalties for rear steer, just to even the field a bit.
- Give the kids attending a bed time!!! lol. (j/k)
- Starting the comp Saturday arvo and having the main parts on Sunday seemed to keep the drunken idiot factor down.
- Turn the wind machine off next year, eh? :D

Again, well done to the Canobolas Club and everyone else involved. Was a top weekend and can't wait until the next one!!

It's easy to get no penalties when you don't get past the 20 point marker, I think me and my team mate were the only team not to have a winch between us!( won't do that again next year i'm askin santa for a winch ) but in all i think it was a great weekend and the cannobolis club did a great job! But i think you should get in early and book the good weather now for next year. lol Great weekend guys

Thanks for all points Jess.

I will ask though, why give the kids attending a bedtime??? They don't at other events, so why this one? And yes I can see you are joking but you must have a reason for stating the fact.

We don't take our 4 girls to any events, due to the fact that some of the spectators are not the best role models! This was the first time they have been to a comp and they had a ball (mind you I wasn't having a ball trying to get the mud out of the twins shoes!) I can't speak for everyone else there, but our girls were in bed just after 8pm (mind you with a DVD though! Hehe)

Quote Miss fourby- Same rules on each course?? I heard on Sunday one team were told on stage 3 not to put the wich cable inside the cab, yet they had done it on another course??

We had our first team go thru stage 3 and put the cable in the car with no probs by the marshall then when i went thru 1 team later went to put the cable in the car and a fellow competitor(thanks Coighty you are allways helpful) in the crowd yelled out to the marshall that it was in the car then the marshall said we can't do it. At the drivers briefing we were told we could as long as the cable was not loose and could not get tangled in the wheel.
We were also caught out when stage 2 ran on sunday as the marshalls running it on saturday were busy running event three on sunday and the guys running stage 2 ran it fairly differently in there understanding of the 3 attempts of a obstacle. We mentioned to the guys running stage 3 so the could clarify it with the guys running stage 2 and they sorted it out.
At the end of day we aren't racing for sheep stations and when the club sits down and debriefs i'm sure it will be sorted for next year  Now there 1st event is done the 2nd one will be alot easier
