Greetings from Finland. Me and my girlfriend Sanna are planning to come all the way to Australia to see Nissan Trials + some Jetboat Sprints.

Someone might know who I am, but for those who don't a short presentation, so that it's easier to find out that i really love off road :P :

Jare Salonen is the name, age 31 and i live in southern Finland. I've been in off road circus since 1991. Back then I had to be co-driver for my dad Kari because in Finland it's not allowed to drive until 18 years of age and valid driving license. So in 1994 I was 18 and we changed seats and i was driving with father being co-driver. We have won the Finnish Trial CUP series few times since 1995.
1998 We were in Spain and managed to win Euro Trial Champion title, 2006 Euro Trial Finland we were only second, 2004 also second in Euro Trial Hungary, 2003 Euro Trial Italy we were third.

2005 and 2006 I won Scandinavian Formula Off Road series champion title in modified class, being first Finnish Champion in Formula Off Road history.

We still are in off road competitions. We have built few 4x4 cars our self for Trial and one for Formula Off Road. Newest thing has been driving Off Road GPS Challenge/trophy competition CUP series in Finland for this season.

Ok so now we are heading to Australia on a holiday and to visit my fiances friend in Canberra and at the same trip I decided that I wanna see some Australian Off Road. Went trough web pages and found out that Nissan Trials is held 2.-4.11.2007 and that fits to us perfect. (Flight back to Finland goes at 6.11.2007 from Sydney.)

Just have few questions. How easy it is to find the competition area. It is this SORRA property that is about north from Sydney...right???

What is the price for tickets to see the competition?

Are the competitions 1 or 2 or 3 day long???

How many 4x4's are normally taking part to this competition?

Is there some cabins or motel kind of place nearby to sleep if the competition is longer than 1 day?

Is there some party and beer drinking after competions

Well that's it for now. Hope make new off roading friends on your side of the globe :D :D

Try and google Nissan Trials. You should get some pictures from photographers that have attended. That will give you some idea on what to expect.
The comp is over two days - 4 events Saturday and 4 on Sunday. There are 25 teams of 4 vehicles competing. Each with a driver and a navigator.
The site is situated 60kms from a sizeable township so accomodation is scarce. Maybe someone could loan you a tent and some gear. 4WD clubs are often very helpful.
The cost is $25 for the day and $40 for the weekend. Go to the website for lots more info.
Cheers

I actually googled you and got some photos. Pitty I don't read sweadish.
There is no OFFICIAL party but I am sure you'll be able to pick up a beer or two with out any problem. You will find that the clubs camp in their own groups and intermingle. You have common ground with about 5 or 6 thousand people who attend over the weekend so I am sure some partying won't be hard to find.
By the way I am Wendy, I look after the competitors and you will be able to find me at 'Class verification' (better known as scuitinering) on Friday. Come say hello. I think you would take the award for most distance travelled.

G'day Jare,

Looks like an awesome comp rig you have there

When you're at the event come and say hello (oops, nearly typed "g'day" but realised it might need translating  ) and have a beer with us at the Blue Mountains 4WD Club, we usually have our marquee up, it's blue (of course) with club name on it, you won't miss it!

Oh, do you have Swedish females coming along, we'd like to meet them too

Cheers!

Umm, Jare is Finnish, not Swedish, so there is probably more chance of him bringing Finnish ladies along.

Scott is right. I'm Finnish and proud of it too :P Saying me a Swedish is like saying that I'm a fagot :D :D Well there has always been this "battle" between Finland and Sweden. But I actually have good swedish friends so i don't care that so much. Norwegians are also great fellows. Actually I hang out more with Norwegians when we are competing.

Ok but back to business. So there's like lot of spectators in that comp? Are they separated from the competitor groups or are all equal to move all around the area? If not, where can i get 3 tickets on the racers side ;) ;) ;)

Finnish chicks....naaah. Well I travel with my fiance Sanna and maybe our friend (she) comes with us to the Trial. Not sure yet. She's the one who lives now in Canberra and is like our hostess (or how you say it?? English is not my native language.....so i hope you people understand me??)

It sure is great to get there and meet new off roaders. Just can't wait to get there :D :D

Your free to move around the competition area.just get your ticket at the gate and you can see as much as the competitors.
all the cars are lined up at each event,in some cases they are in the spectator walking area

Our events are fairly informal as Thunder stated
Spectators and Competetors are free to walk around

If you need help getting from Sydney to Nissan Trials post here, I am sure somebody can help get you there

In Australia guys who sleep in minivans are, how do we say it, faggots ;)
When in Rome do as the Romans, when in Australia sleep in a swag (and drink beer)

Seriously though if you need help to get there let us know

If you want we could arrange to take you offroad for a drive in the Sydney Local area.

Can any one confirm what tracks the open class vehicles have to drive?

Im running 37's MTR hopefully they will measure 36 (havnt checked yet)so ill be pushed up into open.

Do i have to drive the staircase that outlaw drive? Would there be much advantage to go back to a 35 for this comp?

What are the other tracks like etc......or is it top secret?

Thanks

Thanks thunder

Yes my MTR's are fairly worn. They would have about 30% tread left on them at the most.

Thats good news then if i can run them. Better being in the top range of vehicles in modified than the bottom of open. phew

That staircase track is hardcore on the outlaw side.

im in the same boat, im running 37inch pro comps, i dont really want to have to run in open, as i dont think my motor and suspension etc are up to open class. at willowglen when they put the 36.5 gauge around them there seemed to be a bit of a gap there so im hoping they can squash the 36 inch gauge around them. it will come down to a fanny hair. if they make me run in open i will. but id prefer to be in modified. see what happens on the day. im going to make a 36 inch gauge and experiment with pressures
