just installed a new custom made stainless steel snorkel to my 87 classic, went in ok without any major problems and looks pretty neat too, if anyone wants the pics of a description on how i did it .. email me

The pipe cost me bout 200 bucks and the hose was about 40 bucks .. and all i need now is the safari intake for the top.
the grill behind the bonnet will have a polished stainless mesh instead of the crap plastic which is currently there, to match the snorkel
will send pics to Mike when it is done and he can post them, i pick up my new Lightforce spotties on monday ... woo hoo .. then i will have 10 light facing forward...

Bloody oath mate i'll be in that! what engine u running? i've got the 3.5 carb so im still deciding on how to plumb it any ideas? Not too sure about duelies cos i want to convert to EFI in a couple of years!
Also is 3 inch normal i would have guessed it would have been a bit larger! Suppose snorkle rams fit on a three inch!

My 1976 Series 3 Diesel Landrover (SWB) has had a custom made stainless steel snorkel for over a year - it was made and fiited by Bill Larman for a very reasonable price and works perfectly.

The photo's are of Rangee's snorkle. PM him for more info. Mine is a Rangie spares one and it's on a 4BD1 diesel so I don't think it would help many of you.

Okay, heres some photos of mine. The ducting is flexible 3inch inside diameter, the snorkle itself is 3 inch exhaust pipe with two mandrel bends welded in, and painted black..... The mounts I didn't make, a guy I know had made it, then chopped the bottom off later to use for something else, I just put the bottom bend back on. Around the (massive!) hole in the scuttle panel is some flare piping I had left over.
You need to cut a section out of your bonnet, and also at the front of the scuttle panel, where the ducting comes through in mine (and obviously one for the snorkle to poke through).
Excuse the yellow wiring next to the duct, its recent and I haven't got round to putting conduit over it yet.

84 Rangie, 3 inch spring lift, 2 inch body, Megasquirted 4.6, R380, rear Maxi, 34x11.5 JT2s. Simex FM installed.
What about this r/h snorkel i've made, to match my l/h Rangie Spares one. The one in the photo is the dummy i made for the fibreglassers to take a mould of, the mould will be finished tomorrow.

It's been a while since I looked under the bonnet of a carb rangie, but regarding routing of flexy pipe - can the centre air filter be flipped over so intake is pointing towards windscreen? Maybe even reverse alloy U-bends as well, if not enough room for centre pipe?
I dunno if possible and just thinking out aloud but it could neaten up the intake routing a bit, save pipe dangling over motor...
