I'd love to get one of these. Only problem is opposite lock in newstead are the only place I know of that sell them, and they are basically the same price as a warn. Im sure they are overcharging, what should I expect to pay for the 9500p ironman?

Found this one on ebay
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Ironman-9500lb-4 ... dZViewItem
$755 delivered aint bad. I'd prefer to get it from a shop though so i've got someone to whinge too if it stuffs up :D

Im sure I read on 4wdmontly and possibly the winch comparo test that some ironmans are rebadged chinese knock offs, is there anyway to tell the genuine item from the imposters?

Will have to price up some warns as well as visit Boab tomorrow, I dont mind paying the extra if it's just a couple of hundy, piece of mind I think.

The photo of the one on ebay is identical photo with just a different name brand on the top, to the photo of the aldi winch in another thread at the moment.
My understanding is the Ironman ones are a cheap Chinese winch but with upgraded parts to make them strong and reliable.
I personally love the look of the Ironman Bullbar, and would love to buy their combo with the winch and bar.
I've not heard of anyone having a failure with an Ironman one. For the slight price difference between theirs and the Aldi one, I'd rather the Ironman knowing they've specified stronger components in theirs.

So if Ironman etc are very similar to the Chinese Cheapies, is it possible to upgrade the gears and solenoids etc to improve the cheapies. It is suggested that they are all manufactured by the same people in the same factory, just that certain brands have higher spec components.

Reason I ask is there is a guy here at work with an "ebay" winch he got as a present but no winch bar, he is willing to unload it cheap (even cheaper than on Ebay). If I could get some hardened gears and better solenoids it might be a worthwhile project.

Ironman, Brawn, Tmax, Ox, Repco, etc...all come out of China. To start with the older KEW range should be avoided. The newer range are much better but there are problems not only with quality control but also with which factory they actually come out of in China.

Ironman have done a lot to improve quality control at the factory end and do use a better factory. Brawn knew that the winches and quality control were crap and fixed all of the problems locally with some very intelligent mods.

I used Brawns for year and have been very happy but are now onto the new range of Superwinches (EP9.0 range) and these are very impressive with twice the line speed of the chineses ones and a quarter the noise and vibration...and they are exceptionally reliable (funnily enough they come out of the same factory as the Premiere winch but with improved solenoids).

I currently have my winch back at the distributor in Melbourne being repaired under warrenty.

I bought an ironman winch in december 06, was in Tassie in March, and the whole car died, (no power to anything). Opened the hood to find sparks jumping off the battery. Disconnected all leads and worked through them all. Turns out the winch is live and was causing an arc when touching the battery terminal.

What is even more frustrating is that other than unwinding and respooling in my back yard, the winch was still brand new.

Paid $650, inc a winch dampner, remote wireless control and 3 year warrenty.

Sprayed everything with WD40, hoping that it was just water in there (even though it hadn't been submersed) but still arcing up.

Returned it to place of purchase at the end of March, and are still waiting for my winch to be returned. Only 3 months!!!

Have rang a few times, both local guy and melbourne office and still no answer. May have to put the pressure on them both.

Just my experience!!!

Balarat Toyota advertise the ironman in 4x4 trader for $675 . In the add for their parts section. I have thought about getting one but not sure if a 9500lb is strong enough for an 80 or if i should go for the 12000 ?
