have a look at ARE website http://www.are.com.au/ it has lots of usefull info, you really need to know how well they are built and the design of it can make a big difference in performance.

if its cheaply built (eg used an air-air core) it could leak and destroy your motor.

I've got one, but have yet to fit it.
Mine was made by XSPower, has 3" inlet and outlets.

Can this sort of thing be plumbed into the existing engine cooling or does it need a separate radiator/pump?

your meant to be cooling the air not heating it ;) :P

needs completely separate radiator, pump, reservoir and pump control system.

You need to run at least 15psi boost to get any benefit from a water/air intercooler plumbed into your engine coolant.

Using it's own seperate system (pump, lines, radiator) is the only sensible way to do it. Subaru electric water pumps are available from their factory air/water intercoolers, use a transmission cooler for the radiator.

Looking at the link pics I'm not impressed by the welding quality.

Allwill,

is that something you could make up, maybe even swap one tank end around?

I was about to ask the exact same question!

If you could PM me a rough price Andrew that would be great!

Andy there's no problem in fabbing coolers and swapping endtanks there is a problem in sourcing water to air cores though. That one shown is a pretty good size and thickness being 4.5" thick but seeing as the seller also sells the generic air to air coolers I wonder where the water to air core is sourced from.
I would never use the cheap generic cores in a water to air application as I've seen a couple of air to air ones with small leaks, not a real problem in air to air but a major one in water to air.
I've seen a nice Garrett water to air core but they simply don't come up very often. Adrad's water to air core is great but I have no idea what they would charge for one they would be expensive though.
