gen 1 8" LP diff into gen 2 pajero

Post by psycronic »

I have been shown the benefits of lockers again on the weekend, and am tossing up the idea of a diff swap, a gen 2 8" HP diff would be my first choice, but with only 4.875 on offer (though my cousin thinks he could find someone to maybe cut a set of c&p gears for the HP). So a gen 1 8" LP diff with 5.29s is my second choice as I don't want an auto-locker. (Though as the detroit is machined by Geelong Diffs I was wondering if the eaton E-locker could be done the same?)

what mods were needed to fit the gen 1 diff?

as the diff-disconnect is not on the gen 1 diff, can the hubs be left locked so I can still use the 2WD/4WD shift on the fly?

was it worth the effort to get 5.29 gears and an air locker?

are there any downsides to this conversion?
