Newfields axle/cv from states. Anyone used them?

Looking to beef up front drive train for the 34s. Trail tough are outrageous on shipping the double toughs at 260 us via UPS. Newfields from roadlessgear.com are same price but only 115 us shipping... Any real difference in strength? Newfields are a full 4340 cromoly whereas the current DTs are not but they will be available from jan08. I can't wait that long! Any opinions welcome.

I like Doubletoughs, but I'm happy to admit those newfields look pretty good, and maybe better value.

A point about the warranty though - It's for one birfield only, not the axles, and only once.

from what I can see, the doubletough bell looks stronger (more meat, maybe better designed) but I agree that the newfield bell being Chromo might well help. DT's have CTM inner axles though :cool:

If you can't get Doubletoughs for months I wouldn't hesitate to try the newfields.

i did some research through pirate and it seems back in 2005 06 a lot of people running 34 and bigger were snapping the axles shafts...I'm unsure of if they fixed this problem...but I think due to cheaper shipping rates i'll be going for the newfields.

There was one thread which proved that the newfield cv was unbreakable even with CTM or 300M axles shafts...it got to 9000Nm and the axle shafts were snapping...lol...well my issues have always been the birfield so it looks promising for me!

Sean from Low Range Off Road has been fairly unreliable as of late...which is unusual as I have had fantastic dealings with him for everything else I have bought....ah well...hopefully he'll get back to me in the near future with a better shipping price for the DTs...

Yeah he's always busy that guy...he's missed out on my busniess this time...just ordered the newfields from www.roadlessgear.com superfast responses to emails and a no fuss approach...should be here in 6-10 days :armsup:

Slightly off topic, but remember when you beef up a drive train, the stress will just go to the next weakest link, hence why the axles were snapping with beef CV's. If you choose to run these, you may end up snapping more axle shafts. You may want to look into stronger shafts if this turns into an issue. It is possible for a snapped shaft to stuff the CV too when it goes. Dont get me wrong, im not saying dont go for the CV's at all, i can relate very well to how zook gear handles swampers and low gearing.

Thanks for the tip layto...

I relaise that somewhere along the line there will be a point weaker than the rest. Thats why i've tried to share out the load on components by going 4.9 tranny, upgraded transfer mounts, 4.57 diff gears and stronger cvs/axles...hopefully with that combination driveshafts, unis, mounts will all share out the load, rather than one point taking everything....

Now that sounds much better.... I can confirm that the early Newfield shafts were crap.
Here's a pic of one we broke in a winch challenge zuk with a 1600 on 32" Simex's.

After getting new shafts made, just like the ones spidertrax seem to be making now, they've been bullet proof ever since.

Hub fuses are IMHO, a dumb idea. They are a very vague thing to work with- if you make the weak enough that they break before a CV with the steering turned, they will break frequently with the steering straight ahead.

In the rear they'd last about 5 mintues.

I'll be running hubs in the rear and fully expect to break a full strength Sierra front hub without too much problem.

I can confirm that, exacly how mine cracked during Ladoga Trophy 2006 in Russia. And it was in mud :?
I made new ones in local axle shop but no real life experimence from them yet.
