1HDT Wont Go Since changing injector pump!!!

Post by vSAHARAx »

Hey all,

as above changed the injector pump on my cruiser, got one that was recoed about 50k ago and because mine is leaking.

Everything is in, and it just wont go!!! will crank its little heart out, towed it up and down the street and nothing, cracked all the injectors and bled as much air as i could but the batteries couldnt handle too much cranking.

Any body got any suggestions???

Pump timing likely out, make sure all the marks line up. You may have to get a dial indicator and check the pump timing against TDC.

Thought timing would be okay, managed to change the pump without taking the timing belt off.

Is the key on the taper the same on all the 1hdt injector pumps???

the pump come out of my mums car. the motor is rooted as she cooked it, is it possible that the pump is buggered or the solenoid is stuffed due to the heat???

Should be fine...just check all the wires and make sure the pump is on the mark, look for blown fuse on ecu or whatever controls fuel cutoff... if all is ok loosen the injecter lines and turn it over with another car running and jumper leads on the batteries....if no diesel comes out it is pointing to the fuel cut off not working or the fuel is not primed to the pump yet. How much fuel is in your tank??

I would be checking the fuel cut solenoid 1st. It should make an audible click as it switched on/off.
Its ok to run a temporary wire to the battery

I put fitty cents on blown fuse for the fuel shutoff solenoid. really should get the timing professionally checked, a small variation can make a big difference in economy and power.

yes how did you manage to keep the belt tight on the timing gear so to stop it from skipping a tooth ?

1hdt engines have an injection pump that is gear driven, the timing belt sits at the front to drive the cam only from the pump gear.

If the key is still located in the driveshaft, you cant not put the pump in incorrectly. Is the pump full of fuel, does it come out of the overflow bolt at the back. Is there power to the stop solenoid? Do you have the injector lines in the correct sequence? Just in case is the cam timing correct? Does fuel come out of the injector lines when cracked?

It may be better to remove all the glow plugs so there is no lad whilst cranking it over.

Thats how i did it without taking the timing belt off  everything went in fine, made sure the key was in the same position as the one that was removed. The pump had no diesel in when installed, there is deisel comming out of all injectors when cracked, although in saying that its not coming out at great pressure, only thing i can think of is that the pump is not yet properly primed, so when the injector lines are all connected it doesnt have the psi to open the injectors. could this be possible???

Remove the overflow bolt from the back of the injector pump, just above the stop solenoid. Prime the system with the primer handle on the filter housing until fuel comes out. Put the fitting back in, just crank it over until it starts. The fuel pressure in the pump will shift air out of the injector lines. If in doubt, leave one loose and wait until fuel appears at the injector.

So when cranking it or towing it, does grey smoke (atomised unburnt fuel) come from the exhaust? If not, it's not getting any fuel.
