The gear looking thing on the output shaft shown below is for a speedo cable correct?

Looks like the auto you have is from a 2WD which means you will have to swap in a 4WD auto output shaft which I gather was you main question
That would be a job for a trans shop and probably not cheap. Also means you will have to source a 4WD trans output shaft.
All the Toy 4WD autos require an ECU to operate correctly and although they are strong trannies they run very small convertors. I would guess the 2wd would be the same. Personallly I would recommend using a different trans.

Looks like you have either a A340E or an A341 2wd trannie.
I'm facing the same delema at the moment. I'm looking at a 1UZ-FE into my 1985 HiLux and have a A341E.
The go is...If you want to keep this box and have RF1A Transfer case then you need:
1. Output shaft from a 4x4 trannie, ie A340F
2. Extension housing adapter from the same trannie, ie A340F
3. An adapter that will adapt item # 2 to the RF1A Transfer Case. You will also need a spline coupler...be wary that some RF1A's are 21 spline and some are 23 spline input shafts...the input shafts are interchangeable though.
If you are using the VF2A Chain Drive Transfer Case then it will bolt straight up to item #2 above.
Item # 3 above can be obtained from Marlin Crawlers. Sniff around this URL and you'll find what you're looking for ( http://www.4x4wire.com/toyota/tech/auto ... index2.htm ) or get onto the Marlin Crawler web site and go into the forum and post a question for cruzndave.
If you have a A341E you may want to reconsider things as their ratio's aren't that good for four wheel driving.
When you cost it up, you may be better trying to hunt down a A340F with transfercase (chain drive) and just bolt it in. If you are using a 1UZ-FE engine the belhousings are interchangable.
Personally, I'm trying to hunt down a R151F box and transfer case to bolt up to my 1UZFE using a Castlmaine bellhousing...Much stronger box, good ratios and a gear driven transfer case...but do you thinki can find one??? Might wind up with a R150F instead (different ratios with a chain driven transfer case).

yes, the 2wd trannie, this is what bj on roids runs in his R series are manuals are they not?
i want the auto, i drove BJ on Roids cruiser which has the same setup and i was impressed with how it crawled

Yep, the R series boxes are manual.
I guess the point i was looking to make was simply that if you have a A341E then the first gear ratio may be a bit lame, 2.53 as I am led to believe. A340E has 2.804. To put in perspective a TH700R4 has 3.06 first gear...Just a thought that's all.
Interested to see some snaps of the progress if you can.
Do you need that parts I mentioned? I know where you can get them.

he replaced it, but it leaked fluid and they dont like that

Yeah he is running some dodgy cooler. need to figure out where to measure the temps on it!! :(
IT is lasting fine, one had some water in it and ran really low on fluid and melted all the internals. But that was largely driver error. I then continued to drive on it, despite the fact that it was rooted.
hands and mums dont count!!!

I have deliberated on whether to go auto or manual for ages. My previous experience has been similar to yours...Keep em cool (keeping oil in them is a good thing too).
A couple of mates have run TH700's and they had a fair bit of grief with them over the years and seemed to regularly have them in for repairs.
Today i handed over the cash for an R151F (Aussie version, with chain transfer) and will hunt down a bellhousing from either Dellows or the Rod Shop...Hey rumour has it that the Rod Shop may be closing its doors...Don't quote me on that though. Be sad to see them go if that is the case.
