Post by seaeagle »

the bearings look like they are fused to the stub.
ive tried to drill a hole into the axle to tap it to get it out with no success.
its got so hot, theres steel build up on axle and in the diff axle housing too.

what do you want help with?? removing the axle??? if you have an arc welder, weld a rod onto the end of the axle and pull it out with the rod when it's cooled down.

it's a bit dodgey but it works.

Looks like your wheelbearing colapsed and you kept driving till the axle welded itself inside the housing and the end snapped off. Must have been making a huge amount of noise?

Your going to have to total that housing and cut the axle out to save the diff centre.

id be guessing the stub one the housing would be too rooted to reuse anyways if the bearings have failed that badly.

surely ud notice before it gets that bad

i noticed a jump/hop when taking off...no bearing noise, as put up in another post was put down to clutch shudder. even took it to a shop who drove it and said yep clutch.

when i take off the brake drum is the bit that is still sticking out, is it part off the diff or brake setup...( the bit in 2nd pic with bearing case on it)

i belive the diff centre will be saveable but not sure if the diff housing will be any good, i was hoping that there might be any easy way out , but i quess its not gunna be

The bit with the remaining bearing parts welded to it in that pic is called the stub axle. And im sorry but it is attached the the housing and does not unbolt. Its welded to it.

ive repaired a shit load of these here in the west, not a real big job if ya have all the gear, we used to cut the weld in a lathe and bash the stub out they come out pretty easy, we had lots of stubs lyin around to make things a bit easier.
