i used to use a mix of 50/50 petrol/diesel. (because my dad filled his diesel cruiser with petrol when he first got it and had to drain his tank). I found the petrol really ate into the grease and shite and the diesel made it stick a lot more and stopped it from just turning to vapour. Having said that, it's probably not for you because you can really smell the diesel, and you have to use it in a reeeeeaaaaaly well ventilated area. I always used it outside coz i imagined it would be pretty volatile.

If smell is a real issue, you could use biodiesel.
It does feel a bit thicker than normal diesel, so perhaps get a litre and try it out for yourself and see if you like it first.
If you can find your local biodiesel club you could maybe even talk them into making it for you tax free, fuel is so pricey these days that filling your parts washer is more expensive than buying it!

Have a look at http://www.biofuelsforum.com/
There's a QLD subforum on there.
Just tell them what you want and that you're willing to pay, you should be able to find someone to help you.
The clubs can be a bit secretive sometimes, they tend to think that the government is out to get them, but if you're wearing your tinfoil hat correctly you should be right, so see how you go.
